My son Elias is two years older than you and I were when we first met, Chris. He's tall, dusty blonde, and I can't help but think about you sometimes when I'm looking at him. It feels like ages ago we were begging for money from strangers in the old market! Anyway. I thought about you a lot the past few days, and I love you now as much as I ever have. I still make hollandaise the way you showed me.

Dearest Christopher,
Kenny and I were talking about you the other day and it struck us how much we miss you. We were talking about seeing you and you were just little Christopher and then was it months or years the next time we saw you; you were so tall!! You still had the same charming smile and the big beautiful eyes just much higher up! You are loved and missed and your memories and the good times treasured. I love you.

Dear Catherine,

I have read many of the loving entries in this guest book. Sounds as if Christopher took after his mom. What a legacy of happy memories to treasure!

Please know that all of your Lincoln friends here in SLC have had you in our thoughts. I am hoping your heart is healing, and that you will receive peace and comfort.

Much love,

Cindy

Christopher,

Your laugh, your smile, your angry, your sense of humor, your intelligence, your love, all the voices you could do, your bright eyes, your funny faces, your sweetness , your smarting way to say “stupid” things and make everybody relaxed …
In short, Your unique personality (integrity)….
Well….,
They touched me so much that I can not describe here the love and happiness I feel when I remember you….Just the feelings in my heart can explain that.
I wish I could give you a hug now…with all the peace, love and affection that you deserves.
I am sad to know what happened, but at the same time, I can not remember you with sadness, because you really were happiness in our lives… After reading all the messages here, I can see that you really were very special for a lot of people.
Good times we (some brazilians) spent in USA-Idaho….and you contributed a lot for that.
Stay well……
My deepest sympathies to the family…. Despite I don´t know you, I remember all the passion he had for you.

Natália.

Dear Christopher, I have been thinking much about you and remember when you, Christina and Stephanie came and spent the week with us in Lincoln. I remember you helping in the kitchen,surprised that you actually wanted to help cook and having to hold off hugging and hugging you so as not to embarass you. I remember you helping Uncle Donnie stock bottles at the store and chasing you and Mikie away from the girlie magazines. How much I love you and always will. You were a special boy and a special man who offered so much of himself to everyone he met. I am proud of the man you became and I shall always cherish the memories you left us.

Love,
Aunt Al

Dear Catherine, Christina, Stephanie and Dave~We are thinking of you all and have been remembering our times together, especially with you, Catherine, and the girls and Christopher at our house in Persia and over the years since we all met. I remember the first night I met your children at our house on Bancroft Street, the girls were going out somewhere I think and you and I and Henry (a baby at the time) and Christopher hung out and wove baskets. The girls were so incredibly beautiful I remember and Christopher so sweet and loving his mom. He must have been 12 or so, Thomas' age now.

Henry was remembering the birthday when Christopher gave him the yellow Ferrari and how much he loved it. Thomas remembers little pieces of the Fourth of July we spent together in Persia.

I remember mostly how much you all love each other and have grown together through the years. I can't believe we won't see Christopher when we come home. I will miss him immensly and miss watching him grow even more fully into the sweet, tender man he had become and was still becoming. I can not begin to imagine the loss you must all be feeling. We love you all and, as always, keep you in our hearts but feel you especially close now.

Christopher will be very missed by our family.

Catherine, Stephanie and Christina,
I remember once, it seems a lifetime ago, I went to visit you. It was Christopher's birthday, he must have been about four. We dressed in circus costumes and hung a sheet over the table to approximate the circus tent. Somehow Jane was visiting too and we dressed her as a dancing bear in a ballerina's tutu.
We painted her nose black. I can't believe that Christopher has passed and it has been so long since I celebrated him. I've been thinking of him lately because Jane had spoken to him sometime in the not-too-distant past and now when I call her, he is all she speaks of,
Christopher, the chef. I am so sorry for you loss. I miss you and I love you.

To My Dearest Forever Friend, Catherine and Your Family ~
With the recent news of your son's passing - the loss and sadness is overwhelming and our hearts are heavy with sorrow. I remember many conversations you and I have had when you would share your cherished stories when Christopher was with you and being the fun-loving, caring son and fantastic chef . . . cooking delicious meals for YOU! I'm sorry my boys and I did not have a chance to meet him in this lifetime. However, may you keep his loving spirit alive within you to nurture your soul until the day you are together again. We love you and are here for you always. ~ Compassionately, W-R-R-K

I had the pleasure of working with Chris @ Tamarack a few years back. He was an exceptional cook with a sense of humor that matched his culinary skills. I always looked forward to the nights when he was manning the kitchen, we(the entire staff) always had a good time. Often laughing so hard our stomaches hurt! I will never forget the pyramid of cooks, I still have the picture. You will missed, Chris. My deepest condolences to his family and friends around the world.

23rd Psalm

The Lord is my shepherd;
I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me to water in places of repose;
He renews my life;
He guides me in right paths
as befits His name.

Though I walk through a valley of deepest darkness;
I fear no harm, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff - they comfort me.

You spread a table for me in full view of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
my drink is abundant.

Only goodness and steadfast love shall pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
for many long years.

About Christopher Allred

I met Christopher a few times at his mother’s home, and at some family functions and outings to the Old Market; no too close, no too distance, just “his mother’s friend,” and better yet through Catherine’s words of love and admiration, as only a mother can do, describing a kind soul, gentle heart, free spirit and fun personally, who filled the space, the heart space, with his presence. Once, while at her house weaving basket, a group of Catherine’s friends were ‘selected’ to try some of Christopher’s dishes. We did not know the whole story; however, it was some sore of trying new recipes to which we gladly accepted. We all enjoyed such a delicious dish served in big clay bowls, and sitting out side, at Catherine’s desk by her splendid garden. It was summer, it was hot, and the food smelled great. Christopher stood there, did not say any thing, did not ask or comment about the dish. He knew he got full approval just by looking at this bunch of his mother’s women friends enjoying the dish unable to articulate a word. Smile timidly appeared on his face, he turned around and went inside. No words were needed. Thank you Christopher. The touch of a good cook, a great young man and a gentle soul, all enfolded in blessings of his mother’s love.

Amicca, fiorella, my heart and prayers are with you, Stephanie and Christina.

My very dear Catherine,
when faced with such an enormous loss,solace can be found in the simple words of Robert Fulghum.
" I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death."
Catherine, you are in my heart and I am with you.

Chris,
It was truly a pleasure knowing you, and you will be missed.
I have wondered about how you are doing so many times since you left Idaho, and knew that your talent would be recognized by many others. I had the great opportunity to serve and experience many incredible culinary masterpieces that you created, and was amazed many times with your food. My prayers are with you and your family.

Chris, you will be missed by all that had the pleasure of enjoying your presence. I will miss harrasing you, and you kicking me out of your kitchen (even though I would never leave). I will see you again when I join you in that "party in the sky". Lots of Love man Jaison

Dear Catherine,
Twenty nine years ago today, you gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and you named him Christopher. You gave him the gift of life. You cared for him, you sacrificed for him and you LOVED HIM WELL! You showed him the things that are really important in this world. I hope that you and Stephanie and Christina can find a special way to celebrate his life today. We miss Christopher dearly. We know we were blessed for having had the opportunity to know him and spend time with him. Thank you for everthing you did for him throughout his life that helped him to become such a fine young man. You are loved.

Some things live forever and one of them is Chris`smile. He really had a unique way to enjoy life! It was a pleasure meeting a guy like him! Chris was more than a great friend, he knew exactly how to cheer me up by saying something smart, sweet or just silly! My simpathy to the family.

Words cannot describe Chris, his personality, laughter, passion, or his outlook on life, or his talent and creativity. The sparkle in his eye influenced everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. Chris not only taught me how to cook, but how to enjoy cooking.

Dear Christopher,
I have experienced the last 15 years of your life, and your many accomplishments, through my friendship with your Mother. She is very proud of you and so am I. You inherited your Mother's love of nature, her kindness, compassion and courage for new experiences and challenges.
Your Mother and I are looking forward to enjoying some of your culinary masterpieces when we, too, reach the Other Side. Until then, we'll be missing your adventuresome spirit.

Take comfort in the timeless legacy of his life. The many tributes of friends and family into whose lives he brought love, laughter, and compassion speaks to the significance of a spirit which will endure in the hearts of all who loved him.

Hello Catherine,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I only spoke to Christopher once about coming to Alaska to work with us at the Alyeska Ski Resort I was put in contact with Christopher through his friend Ben Vesie. Terribly sorry to hear that Chris has passed on. Along with many others, I was fortunate enough to spend enjoyable hours in the kitchen, cooking along side him. I will always have great memories of the passion he brought to the table, the "sexy" food he created, and his true compassion for all the individuals around him. Sadly, I will still share highlights of our days together with laughter and tears.....

To the family and friends of Chris, I am so sorry for your loss and to Chris, I will always remember you as quiet, introspective and yet with a wonderful appreciation of humor - doubled over in laughter behind the line at the French Cafe.

May a favorite poem bring your friends and family some peace, perhaps not now, but maybe some day.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.
