David Albert Obituary

David John Albert, 83, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, in Conroe, Texas.

David was born on September 20, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska, to John H. Albert and Irene Albert (Davis). He grew up in Weeping Water and later on the family farm in Cedar Creek, Nebraska. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1961 where he met his sweetheart, Karen Kay Albert (Keil) of Plattsmouth. They married in 1963 and lived most of their life together in Bellevue, Nebraska.

During the early years of their marriage, and while raising a young family, David earned a teaching degree from Peru State College. Following graduation, he taught at Omaha Central High School and in Nebraska City before settling into over 30 years at Bellevue Public Schools where he served as a science teacher and coach at Mission Junior High and Bellevue West High School. Many of Bellevue's youth had "Mr. Albert" as a teacher, and he would run into former students everywhere he went.

David loved fishing and spent many happy days at the cabin in Cedar Creek near the farm where he grew up. He also spent countless hours making improvements and repairs to his home, and to the homes of friends and family, always ready to fix what needed fixing.

After retirement, David and Karen traveled often to visit their children and grandchildren, including several overseas trips to the UK and South Africa to visit his daughter Leigh Anne and her family. He also enjoyed traveling to see his son Brian as his family moved to Kansas, Virginia, and Texas. David looked forward to morning coffee and lively conversations with his coffee buddies, followed the markets closely, and especially enjoyed tracking Berkshire Hathaway and its investment strategy. A farm boy at heart, he farmed for a short while in retirement and always kept an eye on the weather and the crops.

David was dedicated to his family and stayed curious and interested in their lives until the day of his passing. He was a special, kind, and generous husband, father, grandfather, son, teacher, and friend, and he will be greatly missed.

For the last four years of his life David lived in the Houston area to be close to Brian's family and, while he missed Nebraska, he treasured the time he was able to spend with nearby family.

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen, his parents, and his brother, Thomas Albert. He is survived by his children, Brian Albert (Rebecca) and Leigh Anne Albert (Allan Wilson) and grandchildren Lynnae Albert, Stephen Albert, Pia Wilson and Alexander Wilson.

A celebration of David's life will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at A View in Fontenelle Hills, located at 1102 Country Club Court, Bellevue, Nebraska. All are welcome.

Memorials are suggested to the Bellevue Schools Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
