Deborah Stang Obituary

Stang, Deborah Lynn (Gass)

June 9, 1953 - July 11, 2021

Deborah Lynn (Gass) Stang, born on June 9, 1953, passed away Sunday, July 11, at the age of 68, surrounded by family at home.

Debbie is survived by loving husband of 50 years, Dan; their 3 children: Lindsay Pape (Paul), Dan (Steph), Jenna Stang (William Hess); 9 (soon to be 11) awesome grandkids; sisters, Stacey Hertenstein and Lisa Parramore (James). She is preceded in death by parents Ron and Brownie Gass; son, Steve; brother, David Gass.

Born in Omaha in 1953 and growing up in a close and active family household Debbie met the love of her life, Dan, as a sophomore at Westside High School. Despite a period where Dan moved away and the two exchanged regular letters and shared long distance phone calls, Dan found his way back to Omaha and the two ran off to wed in Hastings, NE in 1971. Over the next few years Debbie pursued an education to become a dental assistant and helped support Dan while he got a foothold in the refrigeration service field. Upon the birth of their daughter Lindsay in 1975, Debbie's career in a dental office took a backseat and she shifted to the role of a stay-at-home mom. Her family will attest that she truly embraced this role and the Stang household was one filled with backyard swimming, memorable family vacations, lots of kids' activities, and tons of love. When her youngest child started school, she found herself back as a dental assistant in a pediatric office for many years, where her gentle nature and love of kids enabled her to skillfully calm many nervous patients.

Her kids also had the bragging right of having the "cool mom". Not cool in the sense there were no rules, but cool because she was so positive, fun loving, and not afraid to attack life head on to support her family however she could. This ranged from organizing skiing trips in Colorado, going off-road motorcycle riding with her boys, helping her kids with cross-country moves, leveraging her seamstress skills to help in Creighton's costume shop, and even sewing her youngest daughter's wedding dress from scratch. In addition, despite shying away from being the center of attention, Debbie was a fabulous host and cook, and all were always welcome to family dinner with open arms. Those who know her best will also have to acknowledge her dark sense of humor and the hilarious, and often very accurate, impersonations she would do while telling a story.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE to be held Saturday, August 14 from 4pm to 7pm at the Omaha Community Playhouse, 6915 Cass St, Omaha, NE 68132. The family will share some memories at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Omaha Community Playhouse or a charity of your choice.
