Mowinkel, Dorothy Minna

Dorothy Minna Mowinkel, daughter of Detlef and Catherine Ohrt Desler, was born February 14, 1915 at Bennington, Nebraska and passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013 in Plano, TX. Baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington, she attended District 34 Country School and graduated from Bennington High School. On September 25, 1935 she was united in marriage to Chester Mowinkel of Gretna, Nebraska. To this union one son Gerald was born. They farmed in the Gretna and Papillion areas, until retiring to Gretna in 1967. After settling in their new home she went to work at the Ehlers Department store in Gretna where she met many new people as Gretna grew. She worked for ten years, and then she and Chet traveled some, especially to Texas to visit their family. Preceding her in death were her parents, eight brothers, four sisters and her husband, Chester. She loved life, her neighbors, many friends and relatives. She is survived by her son, Gerald Mowinkel and his wife, Priscilla of Farmers Branch, TX; granddaughters, Ann Lee and her husband Randy of Carrollton, TX and Mary Mowinkel Baker or Carrollton, and great grandsons, Christopher and Jared Lee.
MEMORIAL SERVICE 11am Saturday, June 15 at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, 153 S. McKenna Ave., Gretna. Burial of her ashes will be prior to the memorial service at 10am at Voss-Mohr Cemetery 132nd and Harrison Street, Omaha. Memorials may be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad or the Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church.
