Kerry, Chubb & Lonnie you are in our thoughts and prayers at the loss of Gary. I had the pleasure of talking to Gary this summer at the block party this summer and also he stopped by to chat about volunteering at school earlier this year.

TO Kerry, GARY JR, LARRY AND ELOISE AND THE MICHAEL FAMILY. I REGRET I CAN NOT BE WITH YOU AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER, I WANT TO EXPRESS MY HEARTFELT SYMPHANTY IN THE DEATH OF MY BROTHER AND LIFE-LONG FRIEND GARY, SR. LIKE MANY OF HIS FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES, I WAS CRUSHED WHEN I LEARNED HIS LIFE HAD ENDED THIS WEEK. I HAVE LIFTED UP PRAYERS FOR HIS ETERNAL REST WITH OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. I HAVE ALSO PRAYED FOR THE LORD TO GIVE THIS FAMILY STRENGTH AND ENCOURAGE MENT TO ACCEPT THE WILL OF GOD FOR GARY'S DEPARTURE FROM LIFE IN THE WORLD.
AS I LOOKED BACK AT MY LIFE JOURNEY WITH GARY, SEVERAL MEMORABLE OCASSIONS ARE VIVID. OUR INITIAL INTRODUCTION AT KELLOM ELEMENTRY SCHOOL GYMNASIUM IN A BASKETBALL GAME WHERE NEITHER OF US WERE SLATED TO BE SUPERSTARS OR HAD PRO INTENTIONS. OUR YEARS AT TECH JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS. GARY WAS MY CAMPAIGN MANAGER FOR MY SUCCESSFUL ELECTION AS THE KING OF THE 1968 TECH HIGH PROM; AND AS PRESIDENT OF THE 1968 GRADUATING SENIOR CLASS. HE HAD A WAY OF APPEALING AND CONVINCING PEOPLE TO DO THE RIGHT THING….
WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL, WE WERE DRUMMERS IN THE MARCHING BAND AND PEFERRED TO TRAVEL IN HIS CAR, A 56 CHEY, TO PERFORM AT GAMES OVER TRAVELING ON THE BUS WITH THE REST OF THE BAND. WE SOON LEARNED THE BAND COULD NOT START ITS' PERFORMANCE WITHOUT ITS' TWO TOP PERCUSSIONISTS AND ARRIVING LATE AS USUAL DID NOT HELP… BUT THIS MADE US FEEL SPECIAL AND APPRECIATED; AND GAVE US”BIG HEADS.”
AS OUR LIVES PROGRESSED, WE STARTED OUT ATTENDING THE SAME UNIVERSARY, UNO. WE HAD 3- CARS BETWEEN US AND SPENT MUCH OF OUR NON-SCHOOL TIME WORKING ON THEM TO ENSURE ONE OF THEM WAS IN OPERATING CONDITION FOR SCHOOL AND FOR FRIDAY NIGHT… WHILE ATTENDING UNO, WE MET TWO WOMEN WHO WERE GOOD FRIENDS AND WE WOULD LATER MARRY. WE BOTH CHERISHED THE BIRTH OF OUR CHILDREN AND FELT BLESSED TO SHARE THESE MAJOR LIFE EVENTS TOGETHER.
TO COMPLETE OUR EARLY LIFE PROGRESSION, WE WERE EMPLOYED AND HAD SUCCESSFUL CAREERS WITH NORTHWESTERN BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY AND LATER AT&T. AS OUR CAREERS REQUIRED US TO RELOCATE, WE REMAINED IN CONTACT AND OFTEN HAD OPPORTUNITIES TO GET TOGETHER TO CATCH-UP ON OUR LIFE EXPERIENCES. WE ENDURED THE DEATH OF FAMILY MEMBERS TOGETHER; AND OFTEN TALKED ABOUT THE CHALLENGES WE PROVIDED OUR DEPARTED AND LOVED MOTHERS' ANNETTE AND LOUISE.
GARY AND I HAD A PHONE CONVERSATION DURING THE PAST CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY SEASON AND HE SHARED WITH ME HIS PLANS AND GOALS FOR 2013. HE WAS VERY UP BEAT AND POSITIVE REGARING HIS FUTURE. I HAD PLANNED TO CALL HIM THIS WEEK TO INFORM HIM OF THE DEATH OF JANICE MOSLEY, A CHILD FRIEND AND ASSOCIATE THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL. HOWEVER, THE LORD CALLED GARY AND REACHED OUT TO HIM TO BRING HIM HOME AND COMPLETE HIS LIFE JOURNEY IN THIS WORLD. I BELIEVE THE LORD SAW HIS STRUGGLES WITH HIS HEALTH AND HOW IT HAD AFFECTED HIS PHYSICAL WELL BEING; HE KNEW OF HIS WEARYNESS AFTER DIALYSIS TREATMENT; AND HIS LONG WAIT FOR NOTIFICATION OF AN AVAILABLE TRANSPLANT. I BELIEVE THE LORD SAID TO GARY MY PLAN FOR YOU IS COMPLETE; I AM ENDING YOUR STRUGGLES; I HAVE PREPARED A PLACE FOR YOU WITH ME WHERE YOU WILL FIND ETERNAL REST AND PEACE; AND YOUR FAMILY WILL REJOICE IN YOUR HOMEGOING…
I WANT TO SAY TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS PRESENT FOR GARY'S MEMORIAL SERVICE. LET US ALL REJOICE TOGETHER AND GIVE PRAISE TO GOD FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS HE HAS DONE IN GARY'S LIFE; AND ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS HE CONTINUES TO DO IN OUR LIVES.
TRUST AND THANKFULNESS IN GOD WILL CARRY US SAFELY THROUGH THIS DAY. TRUST THAT GARY IS RESTING WITH HIS LORD AND THE LORD IS CARING FOR HIM; AND BE THANKFUL THAT WE ALL CAN SHARE IN THE LOVING MEMORIES OF GARY.
WITH GOD'S BLESSINGS-
JIMMY ROSS, SR

I just learned of Gary's passing and it was too late to make the service for him. I met Gary and his family in the 1970's. He was a wonderful father and a terrific man whose passing is a loss to us all. I will remember him with fondness, respect for the wonderful human being he was and sadness at losing him so young. My condolences to his family.

Although I haven't seen Gary for many years, we did reconnect when I moved to Minnesota. I considered him a good friend back in the day and am sorry that he has gone home so soon. Please accept my condolences to the family and Gary, may you rest in paradise.

To The Michael Families,
I am very sorry to read of the loss of Gary. I have known Gary for years at the Boys Club and students at Tech High. I haven't seen him in years as I basically left Omaha in 1970. He was a very nice person, always was pleasant to talk to and very reachable. I was given a call about his passing from a friend a couple days ago while I was out of town. The first thing I did today when I returned was to sign his guest book, which I am doing at 1:30AM. His friendship over the years will not be forgotten, but not only him, but all the Michael men. May God Bless all of you. Larry, even though your brothers have passed on, you still have many brothers left, I am one of them.

To Gary's Children, Gary II and Kerry Michael; his Brother and Sister, Larry and Eloise: I went to school and worked with both Gary and Lonnie (at NWB Tel Company), they were Dear Friends. It saddens me that they've left us too soon. However, within Gary II, Kerry and the Grandchildren, Gary's legacy will carry on forever! Please find comfort in knowing how well others cared about them and cherished the time and energy they spent on this earth, along with the contributions and examples they set. May God Bless and Comfort Your Family!
