George Marvin Obituary

George Marvin

September 6, 1935 - January 18, 2025

George Buckley Marvin, 89, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, in Lake Wylie, SC. A devoted husband of 64.5 years, father, grandfather, and veteran.

Born on September 6, 1935, in Oakland, CA, relocating with his family to Omaha in 1944. He graduated from Central High School in 1953, where he played trumpet in the dance band, concert band, and ROTC band.

George graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1958. He was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, the Arnold Air Society, and Air Force ROTC. George played trumpet in the university's marching band-including a memorable performance at the 1955 Tangerine Bowl.

His commitment to service extended beyond academics. In 1956, George trained at the Strategic Air Command through AF ROTC. He then served as a Staff Sergeant U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. He later joined the Army National Guard until his discharge in 1964. After a 35-year career, George retired from Mutual of Omaha.

George married Donna and together they built a home filled with warmth and laughter. He had many interests that brought him joy throughout his life: woodworking projects; games of ping pong and cribbage; rounds of golf; building train sets; grilling out no matter the weather; ice skating; and traveling to favorite destinations like Portland, ME; Estes Park, CO; and visits to see children and grandchildren. George was an enthusiastic supporter of all University of Nebraska sports-cheering on his teams with unwavering loyalty.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Donna; daughter, Kathy (Mike); son, Bill; granddaughters, Jenna and Krissy; and by all who were touched by his humor, encouragement, supportiveness, and love-including the family pets he adored, especially Mimi and Basil.

He was preceded in death by his sister Beverly Ann Havlu; father Norman Buckley Marvin; and mother Mable Bureker Marvin.

May George's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire lives grounded in kindness, service, laughter-and Husker pride.
