Gretna, NE. Gerard "Jerry" Anthony Burke, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Gretna on Saturday, resulting from complications of multiple strokes. Jerry was born in Omaha, NE, to John and Wilhelmina Burke. He attended the Gretna Public Schools, graduating in 1956, and then served in the Army. On July 15, 1961, he married Maxine Knipschild. He lived in Gretna his entire life and worked as a mechanic and owner of Burke Auto Service for 20 years; then he sold the business to take up farming full time. Jerry was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and will be remembered as a loving husband and father, as well as a kind and helpful friend. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Maxine; children, Vincent Burke, Omaha, David Burke, Gretna, Bridget (Michael) Chatterson, Gretna, and Audrey (Brad) Boehm, Custer, SD; grandchildren, Danielle and Jennifer Timmerman, Jacob Burke, Cody, Nicholas, and Seth Boardman, and Michael and Rebecca Chatterson; and siblings, Joseph (Bernice) Burke, Atchison, KS, John Burke, Kansas City, KS, Peter (Judy) Burke, Gretna, Mary (John) Lyons, Lisbon Falls, ME, and Anne (Marvin) Souchek, Lincoln, NE. Preceded in death by his parents; sister Regina; and sister-in-law Mary Jane Burke.
SERVICES 10am Tuesday,November 20, St. Patrick's Catholic Church (508 Angus St.), Gretna. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Gretna, with lunch afterwards at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Memorial contributions are welcome in Jerry's name to: Holy Sepulcher Cemetery; or Gretna Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. ROEDER MORTUARY - Gretna Chapel
