Heagle, Glen
Age 80
Burlington, IA. Died at 3:30pm, January 5, 2014, at home from cancer. Born in Omaha on December 18, 1933, he was the son of John and Marie Heagle. He married Sandra Gosch on June 1, 1957. After two years as a Marine stationed in Korea, he attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha where he earned a BA in economics and history. Glen was an insurance underwriter for one year and then worked in the finance department at Philips Petroleum Co. in Kansas City for five years. He became business manager at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha and then became administrative assistant to the executive director. He returned to school for a MBA in hospital administration at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1968. Mr. Heagle's Burlington hospital career spanned almost thirty years. He was president and CEO of Great River Medical Center and of Great River Health Systems, the hospital's parent corporation, and finally was construction manager of the new hospital facility until its completion. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was a board member of Mississippi Valley Savings and Loan and Two Rivers Bank and Trust. He was a past president of the Burlington/West Burlington Chamber of Commerce. He served on the United Way Board of Directors, the Burlington Area Development Corporation Board of Directors and the Burlington Library Advisory Committee. Achievements at the state level include serving on the Iowa IH and HS Board, Servi-Share Board chairmanship; Blue Cross/Blue Shield Two-State Advisory Board, VHA-Iowa and Health Enterprises of Iowa Board and officer positions, and the State of Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals Licensing Board. In 1997 Glen was awarded the Association of Iowa Hospitals and Health Systems Excellence in Leadership Award. Survivors include his wife; one sister, Beverly Hlavac of Omaha; one niece and one nephew; two daughters, Kimberly McLaughlin and Kristin Sobol both of Madison, Wisconsin; and three grandchildren, Pema McLaughlin, Katherine and Will Sobol. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Leigh Hlavac.
VISITATION will be from 6-8pm, Friday January 10, at Lunning Chapel. Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date in Omaha. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11am Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. Pastor Rick Biedermann will officiate. Following the service a lunch will be provided at Peaches Restaurant. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
