James Cummins Obituary
August 1, 1944 - April 4, 2024
Dr. James "Jim" Gordon Cummins was born on August 1, 1944, in Council Bluffs, IA, to John Kenneth "Ken" Cummins and Bertha "Bert" Elizabeth (Devaughn) Cummins. He passed from this life on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in Oklahoma at the age of 79 years. Jim was raised and educated in Omaha, and graduated with the Benson High School Class of 1962. He then attended Creighton University, where he earned a bachelor's degree, and completed medical school and his residency. Jim was married at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Omaha on July 2, 1983, to Gail Ann (Joiner) Cummins. He spent his working life as an OBGYN at a private practice in Omaha for over 40 years. After retiring in 2013, Jim moved to Owasso, OK, and joined St. Henry Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Men's Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and tennis, attending morning mass, and participating in Bible Study at the church, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Cummins; daughters, Christine Funk and husband, Tony, Kathy Bossman and husband, Mike, Stephanie DeJesus and husband, Julio, Alicia Pike and husband, Zack, Caitlin Shults and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Allison; Sister Carmen (Melanie), Makayla, Madison, Mathias, Creighton, Ainsley, Everly, Sophia, William, Clara, and Lydia; brother, Al Cummins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Bert Cummins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Diocese of Tulsa at ww.dioceseoftulsa.org.

I just happened to see this. Dr. delivered both of my babies, by C-Section at Bergan Mercy back in the late 90's. So sorry for your loss!

My condolences to the Cummins family. I worked with Dr. Cummins many years in Surgery at Bergan Mercy hospital in Omaha. He was so kind and always took such good care

Dr Cummins was the best OB-GYN doctor a patient could have. He would always take his time with you. You could talk with him about anything. He was a compassionate loving person. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Jim and I share a Birthday. We graduated from high school the same year and met at Creighton our freshman year. He was a fine man, gentle and happy. We were in a number of classes together. After graduation, he went to medical school, and I pursued graduate degrees at Creighton. I remember him with great fondness and send loving sympathy to his family and friends.

Oh the memories! Dr Cummins was practically the only doctor I saw for 38 years until he retired. He delivered both my children and many nieces and nephews. We had so many laughs over all those years. Hugs to you all...

Jim was a great guy. When I was a nursing student he was also working in the Emergency room at St. Joe's Hospital. It was a slow day and he was so funny. He was one of my favorite cousins. May he rest in peace!!

Dr Cummins delivered 3 of my children. He performed surgery on me also. He was the BEST doctor who listened and cared. He´ll be in my prayers this week thanking him for his heart filled love of delivering the beautiful babies of all his moms
