Janice Nielsen Obituary
December 4, 1929 - February 22, 2026
She was the daughter of Niels and Opal (Andrew) Nielsen, born December 4, 1929, in Dundy County, north of Benkelman, NE. Janice attended the Rural School District 28 through the 8th grade. In 1947, she graduated from high school in Benkelman with her class of 28 students. In 1962, the University of NE issued her an early education degree. A newly elected principal was organizing for the coming school year and was looking for an employee. Janice was met at the bottom of a staircase. He presented his case, and she drove to Omaha for the signing of the contract. Finding a place to stay was very quickly organized. In awe of it all, there she stood with only one pair of shoes, two dresses, and no car. She persevered.
In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and genealogical research. The thoughts of others was her legacy. Preceded in death by brother Delbert Nielsen and parents. Surviving family includes sister Olga Nielsen of Omaha and nieces, nephews, and many loving family and friends.
A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. at John A. Gentleman's Bellevue Chapel (3402 Samson Way, Bellevue, NE 68123) on Friday, March 6, 2026, with a funeral service in Janice's memory to follow at 10 a.m. Burial to be held in Dannebrog, NE, at Oak Ridge Cemetery following services, around 2 to 2:30 p.m.
