Jerry Richard "Dick" Smith

January 24, 1943 - February 27, 2026

Jerry Richard "Dick" Smith died peacefully on February 27, 2026. Dick Smith was born on January 24, 1943, in Omaha, NE. Dick was a state wrestler at Benson High School and at Omaha Technical High School. He left school early to enlist in the Navy from 1960 to 1964. He met his beautiful bride shortly after and was married to Sharon Smith for 61 years. His interests included gardening, cars, and Husker sports. He was a dedicated family man and a great-grandfather. He was a proud, long-standing member of the Cornhusker Corvette Club. He still holds the National Drag Racing record for Class D.

Preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Gladys Smith; brothers, Ernest, David, and Darrel Smith; and sisters, Gloria Larsen and Donna Gillotte; and granddaughter, Caytlyn Kelly.

Survived by wife, Sharon; son, Jerry Smith Jr.; and daughters, Shelley Barker (Dale), and Wendy Lund (Richard); brother, Earley Smith; grandchildren, Ashley Hearn (Anthony), Shayla Kelly, Tiana Awerbuch (Drew), Allison Lund, Christian Lund, Alex Smith, Cohen Smith; and great-grandchildren, Alijah, Ariyah, Aliyah, and Aniyah Hearn.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St., with VISITATION on Wednesday, March 4, 5 to 7 p.m. at Roeder Mortuary.
