Joanne Morey Obituary

Joanne Morey

May 19, 1941 - September 26, 2025

Joanne Elizabeth Morey passed away peacefully Friday, September 26, 2025, at Wesley on Grand Senior Retirement Community in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born May 19, 1941, to Paul and Margaret Daley in Omaha, Nebraska, the second of four children.

Joanne lived in Omaha until November of 2024. She was a proud graduate of Mercy High School. During her lifetime, she worked in office positions in the medical field, including the office of Drs. Hood, Dinsmore and Pitner and at Internal Medicine Associates.

Her proudest accomplishment was being a friend of Bill's since February 27, 1992. She also loved her time as a volunteer at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.

Joanne's hobby was collecting crucifixes and anything related to peacocks. Based on this, it was not hard to find a gift for Joanne. Her collections were a testament to the number of great friends she had in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gale E. Morey; and her brother-in-law, Wally Sefic. She is survived by her siblings, Pat Sefic, Jim Daley (Carol) and Dan Daley (Theresa); six children, Kathy Fehrman (Bill), Patty Haver (Jim), Lynn Schluns (Scott), David Morey (Ann), Mike Morey (Deb) and Janelle O'Neill (Mike); grandchildren, Brandy Ferris, Stephanie Ferris, Zach Haver, Blake Marcum, Abby Garcia, Ben Fehrman, Scott Fehrman, Jake Schluns, Mitch Morey, Lindsey O'Neill and Chloe O'Neill.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 2, with rosary service at 7 p.m. at the John A. Gentleman 72nd Street Chapel in Omaha. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, October 3, at St. James Catholic Church in Omaha. Internment will follow Mass at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha.

Please direct memorials to Omaha's Josie Harper Hospice House or St. James Catholic Church.

Joanne was a friend to our family and always had a smile to share with a hug when I saw her. She made an amazing seafood lasanga for my sister's shower and was the star of the day. She will be greatly missed. Peace and healing to all who knew her.

So sorry for your loss. I just remember hanging out with your family going to the stock care races & eating Broncos. The good ole days!

I was very grateful to have known and been friends with her for 30 years. She was warm, welcoming, gracious and always glad to see you. She loved her family and all the friends she made through her relationship with Bill W. Her favorite `topic“ was gratitude-for everything and everyone in her life and I loved that about her. She will never be forgotten.
