John passed away on June 29, 2013 at the Sioux Falls VA Hospice surrounded by family. John was born on March 31, 1934 to Paul and Alice Grimmond in Omaha, NE. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served during the Korean War. After returning to Omaha, he met and then married Phyllis (Gates) on November 9, 1957. They had 3 boys and were together 55 years, until her recent death in February of 2013. John worked and provided for his family throughout his life. During his retirement years, he was a bus driver for OPS, transporting Special Education students. Grateful for sharing his life are his sons, Christopher (Bev) of Lawrence, KS, Thomas (Shannon) of Sioux Falls, SD, and Paul (Beth) of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by 9 beloved grandchildren. Also grateful for sharing his life are his sister, Kathleen Krejci of Omaha, and his late brother, Gary.
The family will Receive friends Friday 5-7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm, all at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES Saturday 10am, West Center Chapel to St. Thomas More Catholic Church for MASS at 10:30am. Interment, Calvary Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Post #1. HEAFEY-HEAFEY-HOFFMANN
