John Verbeek Obituary

John H. "Joe" Verbeek

April 7, 1934 - December 4, 2025

We are saddened to share John H. "Joe" Verbeek passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, teacher, coach, Navy veteran, and proud member of the Gretna community for more than six decades. A former Industrial Arts and Physical Education teacher at Gretna High School, Joe spent his life shaping young minds, encouraging students, and spreading joy to everyone around him. His kindness, quiet strength, and steady presence left an indelible mark on all he encountered. Joe is survived by two of his daughters and their spouses-Annette Bockman; Jodi and Don Oakerson; son-in-law, Neil Wagner. He was a cherished grandfather to David, Adam, Ashley, Ben, Brett, Paige, Hannah, Chelsea and Ian. He was great-grandfather to 12 youngsters. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jan; daughter Vicki Wagner; and his three brothers. Visitation is December 12th 5 to 7 p.m. at Roeder Mortuary in Gretna, NE. Funeral Service is December 13th at 10am at Gretna United Methodist Church.
