Judith Hess Obituary

Judith J. Hess, born February 12, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Judy moved to Omaha to attend Creighton University, where she began forming lifelong friendships. She began her career in 1965 with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1990. However, Judy was never one to fully retire. She took on part-time roles with various companies but found her true calling in volunteer work. Beginning in 1982 with the Visiting Nurses Association and later with the Josie Harper Hospice House from its opening in 1998 until 2020. Judy devoted herself wholeheartedly to helping others. She supported every class of hospice volunteer education for more than two decades and was known for her willingness to tackle any task with kindness, humor, and a touch of individuality.

Judy cherished the friendships she made throughout her life and had a special place in her heart for her beloved four-legged companions: Morgen, Sasha, and Pepper.

She is survived by her brother Donald Hess; nephews Jason (Lindsey) Hess and Brian (Anna) Hess; niece Lisa (Sheldon) Sharp; grandnephew and grandniece Harrison and Hattie Hess; and grandnephew Landon Sharp, all of Wichita, Kansas.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Tabitha Hospice and Immanuel Newport House for their compassionate care.

To honor Judy's memory, donations may be made to the Josie Harper Hospice House or the Nebraska Humane Society.
