Lawrence Kirke Obituary

Kirke, Lawrence David

July 6, 1945 - February 20, 2023

Larry Kirke passed away quietly on February 20, 2023 after his family was able to say their goodbyes.

Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Cheryl Anna Kirke, in 2015; parents, Nathan and Helen Kirke; and brother, Raymond Kirke.

Larry and Cheryl moved to Kansas City in 2004 where he lived until he moved to Gulf Breeze, FL in 2019 for his final years. Larry was always friendly and greeted everyone that crossed his path. He loved to tease those he loved but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching sports. Larry had a passion for baseball from playing in his younger years to rooting on his favorite teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and the KC Royals. Larry will be loved eternally but is finally able to reunite with Cheryl, who has always held his heart.

Surviving family includes children: Dr. Michael (Lisa) Kirke of Bennington, NE and their children: Colin, Lauren, Alex and Elyse; Mark (Jana) Kirke of Gulf Breeze, FL and their children: Kornelle and Lawson; Melissa (Sean) Tanko of Las Vegas, NV and their children: Jackson and Kaitlyn; and Larry's brother, Marvin Kirke of Omaha, NE.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Friday, February 24, 2023, 11am, at Mount Sinai Cemetery in Omaha.

So sorry, Mike, Mark and Melissa and families. Larry was such a good guy and I loved his quick wit. I know he missed Cheryl deeply and now they are reunited again. You are all in my thoughts and prayers

Larry and I went to high school at Omaha Central and we became friends later when their daughter Melissa and our daughter Tiffani were born. Ellie and Cheryl spent many hours together with their girls. They grew up together and celebrated many birthdays and family events together and both sets of parents joined in. And the girls remain close friends to this day.

I can remember buying stereo car systems from Larry at The Sound Machine in Omaha, and later, from him at Stereo Village. He sold nothing but the best - he was that kind of guy.

Larry once wanted to be a boater and enjoy time with his family on the Missouri River. We spent more than a few days on the Mighty Mo learning navigating, docking, and launching and recovering his boat. He was a quick study.

But most of all, I´ll always remember Larry´s quick smile and sarcastic sense of humor. He could usually always see the best in people.

May his memory be a blessing to his beloved family and all who knew his smile.
