Linda Reckling Obituary

Linda Mae (Keyser) Reckling

January 7, 1944 - October 12, 2025

Linda Mae (Keyser) Reckling, born in Oakland, NE, January 7, 1944, died Sunday, October 12, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, nurturer, and cross-generational caretaker. She demonstrated grace, curiosity, strength, and tenacity. Linda was welcoming, compassionate, and kind, always.

Linda, 81, was the eldest of four children born to Melvin and Dorothy Keyser. Linda attended Dakota City K-12 schools (NE) graduating in 1962. She attended Wayne State College (NE) for two years. She has several family members still living in Dakota County.

She met Larry in high school. Linda and Larry married in 1965 at the Dakota City United Methodist Church. She spent over 40 of her 60 married years in Bellevue. Linda and Larry were stationed with the USAF in Norman, OK, Minot, ND, Rapid City, SD and Bellevue, twice. Linda enjoyed supporting her family and communities and did so in many ways.

Linda was a loving homemaker, classroom volunteer, crocheter, personal gift maker, home and community gardener, self-directed learner, advocate for holistic care options, YMCA member, and a PBS supporter. She made conscious decisions to promote human and environmental wellness; she was a steward to Mother Earth and valued progressive medicine, differentiated support.

Linda enjoyed interacting with animals and nature, reviewing hymnals and sewing patterns, attending church and church suppers, visiting with her loving and sizable family, reading healthcare books, newsletters and magazines, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a sporting event cheerleader and an advocate for marginalized people. She spent time in her later years reviewing old pictures (landscapes, barns, recipes), watching documentaries and Husker volleyball matches. She loved receiving updates on family happenings and local events.

Linda is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Todd Reckling (Kathy), Omaha, and Jamie Shook (Shane), Soquel, CA; younger sister, Barb (Keyser) Strong, Dakota City, NE; younger brothers, Jim Keyser (Cheryl), Lincoln, and Kevin Keyser (Cathy) Parker, CO; sisters-in-law, Sharon Reckling Graff, Lincoln, and Mary Lou Reckling, Roland, AR; dear friend, Sue St. Lucas, Gretna, NE; grandchildren, Kieran Shook (Felix) and Skye Shook, both of California; various nieces and nephews and their children; and a blessed network of friends.

A SERVICE celebrating her life will be held in the Spring.
