Lynn Sobota Obituary
Lynn Marie Sobota
May 12, 1956 - March 29, 2025
Lynn Marie Sobota, age 68, of Schuyler, NE, was welcomed home to our Lord on March 29, 2025.
Lynn was born May 12, 1956 in Lincoln, NE to Richard L. and Patty Lou (Heunink) Vosika, the elder of two children. Lynn learned to play the piano at a young age, and from that grew her lifelong love of music. She was also an accomplished bassoonist. Lynn obtained both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in music from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Lynn taught music at Elkhorn Middle School for 18 years, where she was also the pianist for her students during their various instrumental and vocal contests, played the bassoon for the Omaha Community Playhouse annual production of "A Christmas Carol" for several years, and was the choir director at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, NE for 18 years. She also played and sang in different regional bands.
It was while playing the piano with the Jimmy B. Orchestra that Lynn met the love of her life and future husband, Stephen A. Sobota. Stephen A. and Lynn were married on April 24, 1993, in Omaha, NE. They welcomed two sons, Michael and Stephen R. After retiring from teaching, Lynn focused her time on her sons, supporting them in their academic pursuits and passing on her love of music to them. In addition to her musical talents, Lynn also excelled at caring for her flowers and potted plants, gardening, quilting, and spoiling her grandchildren. Lynn's generous spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Her warmth, generosity, and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Richard L. and Patty Lou Vosika; and father-in-law, Frank E Sobota, formerly of Columbus, NE. She is survived by her husband, Stephen A.
