Mario Zúñiga Sr., age 93, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, in Omaha, NE.
He was born on May 18, 1932, in La Calera, Chile, and built a life defined by love, learning, and devotion to his family. The first of seven children, Mario grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and compassion that guided him throughout his life. A dedicated educator, he spent his career teaching mathematics and physics, inspiring countless students with his patience, intellect, and passion for knowledge.
Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Julio Zúñiga Liñandariz and Hortencia Pacheco Ahumada, and by his siblings, Eduardo, Maria, and Ercilia. He is survived by his siblings, Juan, Elena, and Hayde.
He is also survived by his beloved wife, Maria Barrientos; and their children, Mario Jr. (Charlotte), Maria Elena, Maria Eugenia Tarrell (Alvin), Mauricio (Veronica Irigoin), Maria Alejandra Oran (Curt), and Maria Soledad Wells (Ty). He is further survived by 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend whose warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family, his students, and the countless lives he influenced throughout his long and meaningful life.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Reichmuth Funeral Home with a memorial mass to follow at 12 p.m.
