Nicholas Schinker Obituary
September 30, 1957 - November 29, 2025
Nick Schinker, age 68, passed away unexpectedly from medical complications on November 29th.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Louis Schinker and Eugenia Popa Schinker.
He is survived and deeply loved by his wife, Colleen Visty Schinker; daughter, Ronnie Schinker and her fiancé, Aaron Covaleski; son, Jared Schinker and his wife, Charlita Schinker; brother, Michael Schinker (Judy); and all his Visty brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was an excellent and well-respected writer. He started his reporting career at the Omaha World- Herald in 1978 and became freelance in 1989, writing for many local and national publications. He was also known for his quick wit and exceptional cooking skills, always making enough to share with others.
We will miss his great stories, sense of humor and the thoughtful way he filled the lives of family, friends and neighbors with love and care every day.
VISITATION: Tuesday, December 9th, 4 to 6:30 p.m., at West Center Chapel with a VIGIL SERVICE at 6:30 p.m.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Wednesday, December 10th, 10:30 a.m., at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church with luncheon to follow.
Vigil Service and Mass will be live-streamed.

I was sorry to hear of Nicks passing. When we were in Highschool we learned we were distant relatives through our grand parents relations. I remember Nick as an affable fellow and the description in the obituary matches what I remember of him.

Like everyone else, I'm heartbroken that Nick passed away. He has been my best friend for almost 50 years. I was the best man at his wedding. Such a devotion to his wife and family...I haven't seen in other people. An anniversary card every 7th of the month, for over 40 years, two beautiful children, now adults. I have loved Nick Schinker, who stood by me in good times and bad. My love to the family. Michael and Stephane Barrett send our love and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of Nick's passing. We were classmates at UNO 1976-1978. I have very fond memories of Nick. He turned me onto Gino Vannelli and for that I am eternally grateful for that gift. Between classes he would go for a drive up and down Dodge Street and would drive so fast. That freaked me out. Fly high, Nick.
