Richard File Obituary

Richard Garrison File

July 28, 1949 - April 6, 2025

Richard Garrison File, 75, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his family ranch in Bandera County, Texas.

Richard is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jacqueline File; his son, Brian File; his daughter, Leslie Vicary and son-in-law, Taygen Vicary. He was a proud grandfather to Lela, Macon, Orrin, and anticipated the arrival of a new grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Kevin File and wife Betty of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother Berry (Bud) Griffin and wife Sandy of Prescott, Arizona; and sister Beryl Griffin Stoots of Arizona.

Raised in Texas, Richard carried his upbringing with him throughout life. He fondly recalled moments from his childhood, including a cherished memory of being allowed to go hunting with his grandfather during a school day. He also never tired of hearing a particular family tale still a matter of debate about who pushed whom into a duck pond.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Rice University and went on to receive a doctorate in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. He began his career as a CPA before discovering his true calling as a professor. He met his wife, Jacqueline, in Austin in 1983. Together they raised twins, Brian and Leslie, and built a warm, loving home.

In 1988, Richard began teaching accounting at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he would later retire as Professor Emeritus. Prior to that, he was a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma. A passionate educator, Richard touched countless lives through his teaching and mentorship.

Richard had a great love for animals and took special pride in raising and showing Bernese Mountain Dogs and Australian Shepherds. From his honeymoon in Hawaii to his final days at his cherished ranch in Bandera, he and Jacqueline shared a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family for his quick wit, warm humor, and storytelling always delivered with a twinkle in his eye.

A memorial is planned for May 3rd at 2 p.m. at the New Apostolic Church, 6221 Girard St., Omaha, Nebraska 68152.

Former student here, thank you for everything you taught us, even though at times the course was tough. You've taught many students that are now successful because of you. Thank you, and Rest in Peace.
