Robert Amend Obituary

Robert Amend

January 4, 1947 - September 18, 2025

Robert "Bob" Joseph Amend, a dedicated public servant and lifelong golf enthusiast, passed away on September 18, 2025 at the age of 78.

Bob was born on January 4, 1947 to Joann Richling Aikin of Beatrice, NE and subsequently, adopted by Alexander and Mabel Amend.

Bob began his love of golf at Omaha Country Club, where he was a Caddie. The sport would remain a constant joy in his life, offering both challenge and camaraderie over the years.

Bob proudly served the Omaha community as a police officer with the Omaha Police Department from 1968 until his retirement in 1995, after sustaining a back injury. Known for his steady presence, integrity, and commitment to protect others, he earned the respect of colleagues and gratitude of those he served.

In retirement, Bob enjoyed more time on the golf course, where he found both peace and friendship.

Bob was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Alexander and Mabel Amend; his biological mother, Joann Richling Aikin; and brother, Jim Aikin of Beatrice.

Bob was survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Alice Keenan Amend; his daughter, Kristin Huber; his son, Rocky (Kalli) Amend; his sister, Judy (Rob) Sunderman of Beatrice; and his grandchildren, Tatum Huber, Brody Huber, Andrew Huber and Bobbi Amend. Bob was also survived by his cousin, Molly (Gary) Chilinski of Eloy, AZ, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 5 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service held at 6:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney. The Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, September 26, 2025 at St. John Vianney. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society and OCC'S Caddie Scholarship fund.
