Robert Diers Obituary

Robert H. Diers

February 14, 1933 - November 17, 2025

Robert Diers, a lifelong Omaha native and business owner died of natural causes on November 17, 2025. Bob was born in Omaha on February 14, 1933 and is fondly remembered by all whom he came in contact with as a larger than life character with an amazing ability to connect with others.

Bob's true love was Lake Okoboji, where the Diers have enjoyed summers in their lakeside home for over 100 years. Bob could often be found on the front porch sharing his stories about lake life and other fun times.

Bob served as President of Harold Diers & Company, founded by his Father Harold Diers in 1941. He also served on the Board of the Omaha Symphony, was President of the Men's Symphony Council, and in many other business-related leadership roles.

Bob was born in Omaha in 1933, went to Benson High School, and ultimately graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in Missouri. He went on to study television production at Northwestern University. After his time at Northwestern, he joined the United States Air Force. While with the Air Force, he spent time in upstate New York, and various locations throughout Europe. He then returned to Omaha to work in the insurance business with his father.

Like his parents, Bob had an adventurous spirit, which was shared by his wife Marilyn. They traveled all over the world: Safari in Kenya, China, Tibet, Italy, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and other exotic places. He was rarely seen on these trips without his camera to document every exciting minute.

Preceded by his parents Harold and Elsie Diers; sister Joan Harsha; stepson Michael Argumedo. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Diers. Bob has two daughters from his former wife Mary, Elisabeth (Libby) Diers Anderson (husband Jim), and Amy Diers; along with his stepchildren Dana McMurchy (husband Pat, son Conor), Marta Priore (husband Steve). He also has three grandchildren and one great grandchild, Elise and Christian Anderson, Peyton Diers, and Murphy Anderson. Bob's generosity, sense of adventure, and philanthropic heart will be missed but never forgotten.

Family and friends will gather at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Thursday, November 20, 2025 beginning at 12:30 p.m. for a Service at 1 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Historic Chapel with burial to follow.

Yesterday

My Dad and Bob Diers were very good friends and through that I got to know Bob. We were on a few fishing trips up Canada in the early 1970's. Over the years if Bob needed someone to go with him to the Husker football games, I would get the call if the weather was too cold and no one else wanted to go. He had tickets on the top row in the North Stadium and the wind always blew hard. Bob would occasionally hire me to do various odd jobs around his yard cutting tress or digging up bushes, that sort of thing and even poured a new portion of his driveway at his house in Loveland. I even bartended at an outdoor party one summer. Sounds like Bob enjoyed his retirement. My parents (John and Marcia Gilmore) would get invited up to the lakehouse along with other couples in the summer. Sorry for your loss as Bob was really a great guy

I had the joy and true honor of getting to know Bob through my volunteerism at Hillcrest Health Care. He always talked with great joy about spending time with family at Lake Okoboji and his time in the Air Force (flying upside down under bridges). I will greatly miss our weekly meetings!
