Robert Runyon Obituary
Robert S. Runyon died peacefully at his residence in Omaha on August 30, 2023.
He was born in Summit NJ to Henry W. Runyon and Margaret Barton Runyon (Green), and had one brother, John Barton (Bart) Runyon. Bob earned his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan Univeristy in Middleton, CT. and later earned his Master of Library Science from Rutgers. His career involved work at all levels in public, special, and university libraries, and spent the last 22 years of his career serving as the Library Director/Library Dean at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Bob married Sheila J. McCrae in Scotland and had one son, Neil. He had a great passion for reading and books, especially to his grandchildren, Cassidy and Gabriel. Outside of work, Bob was a member of Reveiliers Toastmasters Club, Omaha Rotary West, volunteered at the Literacy Center for the Midlands and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In 2019, he finished his book, Seven Continents before Incontinence: A Memoir of Travel & Togetherness, which was his reflection on travel, family, nature, and aging. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Margaret, brother John. Survived by wife Sheila; son and daughter-in-law Neil and Natalie; grandchildren Cassidy, Gabriel
CELEBRATORY SERVICE will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 4 p.m. at West Center Chapel.

Bob founded the Loveland Neighborhood Association in 2012 and I am still involved with it. The seed he planted has grown into a healthy tree.

Bob was an outgoing man who walked around the Loveland neighborhood making friends and ended up establishing the Loveland Neighborhood Association in 2007. When I wrote a history of Loveland, I dedicated it to him. He also inspired the Gadzooks conversation group that meets weekly to this day.
