I just found out today (March 1st - a few months later) and wanted to say he was amazing. He was one of my favorite professors and I was honored to do the Tech edit for his Pascal book.
He will be missed and I´ll forever remember him and his pipe.

I’m so sad to hear this news. Stan was one of those professors that made a great impact on many students lives. His influence on me and those computer science students who were involved with UNO’s student ACM chapter was fantastic. So many memories. He’ll be missed.

Sometimes people will come into your life in different means and that was Stan to me and the rest of the Omaha Sherlockian Society. He came to add the joy and insight he felt in reading the old Sherlock Holmes stories. Before long he took on the role of mastering our website, planning with the Omaha Library to set up our 2nd of the month meetings. Always in a joyful mood he was a delight to spend 2 hours with discussing THE stories, or his latest adventure to Spain and keeping us up to date about his little dog. Stan was a true gentleman in the best sense of the word. We shall all miss him each time we gather. God save the queen. God bless The Master. To Stan, with all our love. Carl T. Wirth and the Omaha Sherlockian Society.

I will always remember Al (or to some, he was "Stan") as a cheerful soul, with amazing, God-given talents, especially in music and computer science. Everyone around him was blessed by his intellect, honesty, infectious smile, sense of humor, and loving heart. He will be deeply missed.
Peace be with you, Al, forever and ever, Amen.
