Our sincere condolences to Gail and Family. Tom was a great, positive influence on so many. He was a dedicated professional and leader, not afraid to let a recent residency graduate understand that he still had a lot to learn about taking care of people. A lesson I carry with me to this day. Thank you, Tom, for your years of service and the memories we all share. Rest in Peace.

Gail and Jane,
We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing. I know you will miss him beyond anything you have ever experienced before but may it give you some comfort that he is no longer suffering and free of pain. I am so glad to have had the chance to visit with him on those New Years Eves at Deb and Doug's. He was a very personable and witty guy. I'm sure he is up in heaven enjoying a huge basket of shrimp and shootin' the breeze with God. Our love and prayers to you both.

I hunted, fished, drank and on rare occasions even worked with the colonel. All a man ever needed to know about Tom Bierman can summed up pretty quickly. He was as good as his word, and his word was golden! Most everything was black and white in his world, not much grey. He was affable to a fault, that is unless you talked down his country. And lastly, he meant what he said. On 17 April 14 he saddled up for the last time and took the same trail all of us will eventually take. I like to think he did it riding hard into a stiff wind, reigns in the left hand and a Winchester in the right all the while sitting tall in saddle....because that was his style. For Gail: One day about 25 years ago the Col and I were in the vestibule at the back of the DC between patients when you walked by us on the way back to the hospital. You were in a service dress blue skirt wearing high heels, a lab coat and looking very proper. You walked by us, out the door and across the driveway and were just about to enter the far vestibule door. The whole time the colonel never took his eyes off you. About that time he said "she sure does have a mighty fine set of pins". He had his one foot propped up on the butt can as he was prone to do and slowly straightened himself up and headed towards his next appointment. You didn't need to be there to see how he looked at you or heard how he said it. That man loved you and we all knew it. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Tom -- One of a kind who leaves a tremendous positive impact on all the rifle competition shooters in the Omaha area. And, a great lunch buddy - just wish we had done more of this in the last few months. A short time ago, Tom took up the hobby of shooting historical US Military rifles in formal competitions. He stepped up to leadership and training challenges and provided us with the best matches, new shooter's clinics, and many enjoyable weekends with his companionship. Thanks Tom (and Gail).

Tom was my sponsor at Travis Air Force Base back in 1977. It was my first assignment and Tom patiently showed me and the other new captains how it was done. He was a great mentor to me and set me on course for a successful Air Force career. I am deeply saddened to hear that he is gone.

Tom Bierman was a singular individual and will be sorely missed. I really enjoyed working with him at Offutt and remember fondly our many discussions on how to save the world! A finer gentleman I have never known.

A truer friend would hard to find, Tom fit the bill completely. He did what he said and said what he did. He'll be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gail and family.

It's been years since we retired from the US Coast Guard Auxiliary which is where we met Tom and Gail. We are so sorry to hear about his death. We know he will be dearly missed. His sense of humor and antics that we all did while in the Auxiliary we will always cherish. Gail and Jane our hearts are heavy with sorrow, but we are joyful that we got to know Tom and you during his lifetime.

Dr. Bierman (unknowingly) provided mentorship to me when I first entered the USAF. In him I saw a hard-working and accomplished professional who spoke only well of his wife - who he obviously loved and respected. We can celebrate his life.

I can remember the first time I was asked to assist Dr. Bierman; I was petrified. I had heard he was a bear to work for.
The opposite was true. He was one of the best I had worked with in my 23 years in the AF. A gentleman that expected and gave true excellence in all that he did.
A true leader by definition.
And a great man on all counts. You will be and are already missed my friend.

Gail and family; Although it's been years since we were stationed together at Grand Forks I was deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Bierman's passing. I admired and had the utmost respect for him, both as a dental officer and as a person. I remember he volunteered to go to Honduras on a humanitarian mission, treated my wife very well for dental trauma after hours, loved John Wayne, and had a great sense of humor. I still remember that "Sylvester" the cat silhouette he had in his DTR. He was one of the few dental officers I knew during my 20 plus years that had that innate ability to command respect and inspire everyone around him, and still managed to have fun along the way. He was an officer I was proud to serve with. Hold on to those memories ... I will.

Tom was one of the most influential persons in my Air Force career. He was truly one of the straightest shooters I have ever met. Upon my first entering the Air Force Dental Corps, he was my mentor. His warm sense of humor and likable mannerisms made me feel welcome in every way. Our fun trips to the Lake of the Woods, catching walleye on his Bayliner, fish fries, ‘get-togethers' and closing down Chi-Chi's every Friday night made some of our fondest memories. And he taught me “Apple pie without cheese is like a hug without a squeeze.” These are the moments we remember that bring a smile to our faces…A true ‘John Wayne' gentleman, loved and respected by all who knew him, he will be missed. We pray the God of all Comfort wraps you in His arms at this time when words fall short. Gary and Theresa Braun
