Timothy Christi Obituary

Timothy Paul Christi Tim Christi left us on April 13th at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy of stubbornness, humor, and love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Christi Hahn, who was anxiously waiting to give him noogies in the afterlife.

Tim is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Libby, who tolerated him more than anyone else, and his parents, Chris and Rhoda, who loved him dearly despite his mischievous nature.

He also leaves behind his baby sister, Beth Rogers (Lee), who miraculously reached adulthood unscathed by Tim's childhood pranks.

His four children, Donna Stachowicz (Sebastian), Jennifer, Rebecca, and Nicholas, inherited equal parts of his stubbornness, and all of them believe they are right all the time.

Tim was also a loving grandfather to four sweet grandchildren, Jill, Chris, Lucas, and Henry, who may have inherited his penchant for pranks and crude humor.

Tim graduated from Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Kentucky, where he excelled in wrestling and gymnastics. He thrilled his parents by finishing college at the University of Kentucky and accepted a commission as an officer in the United States Air Force in 1979, a career he shared with his father. Tim proudly served for 24 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE.

Aside from being a prankster, Tim was a natural athlete who enjoyed scuba diving, shooting targets, and pumping iron. He was sometimes known to skip leg day. He was proud of his Greek heritage and loved tanning himself to a shade of brown in summer and remained olive in winter. His wife, Libby, learned how to make Greek dishes like baklava, spanakopita, and moussaka. Despite his appreciation for Greek cuisine, Tim's favorite food was a Coors Light beer and Omaha steak, which he loved to grill for his family. He also had a penchant for diet, caffeine free Coke and Kraft macaroni and cheese, the powdered chemical version, not the organic kind.

During his long Air Force career, Tim served as the mission commander for the final flight of the EC-135 Looking Glass, among many other accomplishments. However, Tim's most significant achievement was raising his family. He worked tirelessly to provide for his wife and children, even working three jobs at one point to make ends meet.

The Air Force took Tim's family to many places, including places like Hawaii and South Dakota, which were both loved and hated. Regardless of where they lived, Tim remained devoted to his extended family, embarking on long cross-country drives to visit relatives in Kentucky. Along the way, he would indoctrinate his kids with music from the Beatles, Elton John, Billy Joel, the Eagles, and his beloved Stevie Nicks.

Timothy Paul Christi was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived life on his own terms. He will be remembered for his stubbornness, humor, and devotion to his family.

A celebration of life service will be held in Lexington Kentucky on June 11. Details will be sent to family and friends. Guests will be encouraged to come in casual clothing and are welcome to skip the shave, as Tim hated the formality of funerals, would prefer to celebrate life, and did not like to dress up or shave often.

Just learned of Tim's passing. I was thinking of him and found his obituary during a Google search. He was the best boss and scuba diving buddy one could ask for. We played hooky from work whenever we could to go diving. We always had a great time. As my supervisor at work, he made it possible for me to complete my bachelor's degree and be promoted to both Senior and Chief Master Sergeant. We never stayed in long-term contact after Hawaii except for a couple phone calls and emails when he was at Offut. I can never thank him enough for the impact he made on my life. Deepest condolences to Libby and the kids. Rest in peace, my friend.

Served with Tim at the 4th Airborne Command and Control Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, SD in the late 80's. Outstanding officer with a great sense of humor. A wealth of knowledge that I relied upon to get me certified as an airborne missile launch officer. RIP Warrior. We have the Watch.
