Todd S. Adams
July 22, 1956 - November 6, 2025
Todd Stuart Adams, 69, of Ogallala, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 6, 2025, after battling ALS with courage, dignity, and his trademark humor.
Todd was born on July 22, 1956, in Lincoln, NE, and welcomed into the loving family of Mel and Huberta Adams. The family moved to Brule when Todd was four, where he attended grade school. In 1967, his family moved to Ogallala, and he graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1974.
While in college at the University of Nebraska, he was a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, whose members became his life-long friends. He participated in Army ROTC, was a Distinguished Military Student, and was the Distinguished Military Graduate. Upon graduation in 1978 with a degree in business administration, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Armor Branch and was recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution with their Transportation Award, given annually to the top twenty graduates in the Armor Branch. While in school, Todd met the love of his life, Kandace (Kandy) Kampfe, and they were married on June 2, 1979. To this union were born four wonderful daughters, Jennifer, Amanda (Mandy), Melynda, and Sarah.
Todd continued his education, earning his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska in 1981. During and following law school, he worked as a tax accountant for Touche Ross, now Deloitte, and became a Certified Public Accountant. In 1982, Todd was called to active duty. He served at Fort Knox, KY, Fort Bliss, TX, and in Germany as a Tank Platoon Leader and Squadron Adjutant for an Armored Cavalry Troop. Todd then served for many years in the Army Reserve as a Troop Commander and instructor, ultimately achieving the rank of Major and earning the Douglas MacArthur Leadership award.
In 1985, Todd's family returned to Ogallala, and he began his banking career at Adams Bank & Trust, and his insurance career with Adams Insurance Advisors. He was a member of the fourth generation of the Adams family to serve at the bank and insurance agency. During his entire banking career, he served as a Trust Officer, as well as serving as Cashier and later President and CEO of the Bank. He was licensed for all lines of insurance in the State of Nebraska, held a Series 7 security license from the National Association of Security Dealers, was a Chartered Global Management Accountant, and a Personal Financial Specialist. He served on the Nebraska Banker's Association Board of Directors and served on their Political Action Committee for over 20 years. He served two terms as a Board Member of the Omaha Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. In 1990, he and his wife started Office Service, Inc., in Ogallala, and he was involved with property management and land development with his best friend, his brother Chad.
Over the decades, Todd generously gave his time, talent, and resources to his church and community. He was a life-long member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where he taught Adult Sunday School. He also served on the Central Church Board and as Church Moderator and Parish Treasurer. Outside of the Church, he was a dedicated participant in a Tuesday morning Bible Study he shared with a close-knit group of friends and fellow businessmen. Todd was a member of the Rotary Club, serving as Club President and District Treasurer. His dedication to Boy Scouts grew from his youth as an active Scout and Eagle Scout Award recipient. He served eight years on the Ogallala Board of Education, including two years as President, and received many local and state awards for his leadership, business acumen, and community support.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin H Adams, Jr.; and in-laws, Raymond and Betty Kampfe. Survivors include his wife, Kandy; daughters, Jennifer (Ben) Wheeler-Harsh of Lansing, MI, Mandy (Joshua) Hoover of Brule, NE, Melynda (Billy) Boyce of Arlington, VA, and Sarah (Michael) Vargas of Dublin, OH; 11 grandchildren; mother, Huberta Adams; brother, Chad (Barbara) Adams; and sister, Melanie (Dave) Washa, all of Ogallala, NE; sister, Laurie (Kirk) Hovendick of Hickman, NE; sister-in-law, Peggy (Jim) Heese of Haymarket, VA; and many other family members and friends.
