Walter R. Hanisch, 90, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Marquis Place of Elkhorn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026, at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul, Nebraska, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Soulville Cemetery near Boelus. Pastor Darren Timberlake will officiate. Memorials are suggested to Fremont First United Church or the Soulville Cemetery maintenance fund.
Walter was born February 28, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Gustav and Louise (Wiese) Hanisch. He grew up near Rockville and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1952. He married LaDonna Calvin on December 31, 1954. Walter devoted his life to farming, operating a dairy and raising crops and horses near Cushing, Nebraska. He also served as a Regional Director for the Mid-American Dairymen's Association.
He enjoyed Nebraska Cornhuskers football, the Denver Broncos, horse racing, and dancing.
Survivors include his children: Edward (Ellen) Hanisch of Gig Harbor, WA, Jerry (Shirley) Hanisch of St. Paul, NE, and Cynthia (Paul) Landis of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Ann Hanisch; and brother, Dr. Richard Hanisch.
