Andrew Zingaro Obituary

Andrew P. Zingaro, 95, passed away peacefully on November 5, in Richmond, Virginia where he resided for the past 3 years. Andy was born on June 30, 1923, in Mt. Morris, NY a son of the late Louis and Sadie (Tangredi) Zingaro. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School and Fredonia State University where he received his BS and MS degrees with a major in music education. He interrupted his studies midway to serve his country during World War II in the army. He married Patricia Bennett of Geneseo, NY on August 20, 1949. After starting his professional career as a music teacher, he moved on to direct the music program at Vernon Verona Sherrill Central schools. He started the music program at VVS growing the concert and marching bands along with the orchestra. Under his leadership they won many state competitions. He also composed the school’s alma mater. Teaching his students was one of his greatest joys. They honored him by dedicating their yearbook to him three times during his career. In retirement, he continued his passion for music, playing with the Venice and North Port Symphonies in Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, during time spent living in Venice, Florida; Buffalo, New York; Lynchburg and Richmond, Virginia. His artistic talents extended to painting, gardening and baking as well. Friends and acquaintances alike looked forward to delicious and beautiful trays of cookies. Survivors besides his wife of 69 years, Patty, include sons and daughter-in-laws, Scott and Louise Swiecki Zingaro of Richmond, VA; Tom and Heidi Kealey Zingaro of Denver, CO; daughter Paula Zingaro Allard of Getzville, NY; one brother Joe Zingaro of East Amherst, NY; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric Stockmeyer; Jack; Liam and Nate Kealey; five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Zingaro inspired and supported all students interested in making music. I am grateful for the many lessons he taught me. Tonight as I perform in a concert I will think of him. The phrase throughout our life whatever our fate from the school song he gave us surely reminds all of us of his inspiration.

With far more patience and encouragement than I at many times deserved, from elementary years through 12th grade, he was the man who instilled in me a life long love and appreciation for all types of music. The true universal language. At the time, 50 plus years ago, I had no idea how his gift would effect me for the rest of my life. It has made good moments even better and provided the strength to survive the worst of times, seeking solace by listening to and playing music. I am not proud of the fact and deeply regret I never sought him out after all these years to tell him. My sincere condolences to the Zingaro family.

An inspiration to me. I took clarinet lessons from him at the CAC in the summer - he made it enjoyable. I will never forget him and his passion for his music and his caring for his students!! A true professional. I expect he is now playing the harp for the other angels. RIP knowing that you made a huge difference in so many lives.

Mr. Zingaro was the best music teacher VVS ever had. I wish today VVS had a marching band like he had.

Mr. Zingaro introduced me to the violin waaay back in elementary school at J.D. George in Verona. I played all the way into the 9th grade when I essentially gave it up. Now many years later my interest has rekindled. I have a violin and other instruments of my own now and am slowly relearning how to play. But it all started with Mr. Zingaro. RIP good sir. Salute!

Mr. Zingaro was a wonderful music teacher. He enjoyed what he did and passed that enthusiasm on to many of us. 95 years on this earth, he gave it a good long run. May God Bless him and his Family.
