Brian Moher Obituary

ONEIDA >> Brian D. Moher, 64, formerly of 249 E. Walnut St., died at his home in San Diego, Calif. of heart complications, Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1950 in Needham, Mass., a son of Robert W. and Beverly E. Walters-Moher. A graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1968, Brian lettered in football and wrestling, and also enjoyed acting in the school play and playing the trombone in the band.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the United States Army attached to the 1st Infantry Division, receiving the Army Commendation Medal. Specialist 4th Class, Moher was trained in communications.
Brian could best be described as a free spirited, independent thinker whose smile lit up the room. He laughed often and enjoyed life to the fullest. A real "renaissance-man," Brian was always curious and open for any adventure, and didn't know the meaning of the word fear. He was also very kind and generous to a fault.
A scholar and voracious reader, Brian received a master's degree in information systems from SUNY at Albany and became a state employee serving as a librarian in military libraries in Japan, Hawaii, Alaska, and San Diego. He often spoke of the joy he experienced from designing library programs that inspired young people to read and learn.
Brian's passion for traveling took him all over the world. He said his two week trip to Amman, Jordan to visit sister Beth and brother-in-law, Rajaie, was his most memorable.
In the last couple of years, Brian grew close to his brother Dan, who also lived in San Diego and shared Brian's passion for travel, RVs and motorcycles.
Surviving are his three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Kathleen Moher of Sherrill, N.Y., Michael and Janet Moher of Verona, N.Y. and Dan Moher of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Kathleen and James Damico of Richmond, Va., Patricia and Jack Campbell of Divide, Colo. and Elizabeth and Rajaie Al-Khaiyat of Amman, Jordan; four nieces, Kimberly Moher-Sheedy, Kara Damico, Casey Moher and Baylee Campbell; three nephews, Christopher and Brian Damico and Thomas Moher. Brian is also survived by his friend and Vietnam veteran, Charlie Boberg. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Moher; mother, Beverly Walters-Moher; brother, Kevin Moher; a niece, Kelly Moher; and a nephew, Michael Al-Khaiyat.
Contributions in memory of Brian Moher may be made to Oneida Castle Veteran Memorial Fund, 4 Fourth St., Oneida Castle, N.Y. 13421.
Funeral services will be held in Spring of 2015 and are under the care of Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.campbell-dean.com.

To the Moher family, I am so sorry for the sudden loss of Brian. He was a dear friend and for the past five years a colleague with the USMC libraries. Being a Librarian was the perfect career for such a curious, well-read guy. He was always game for any adventure in life and enjoyed living life on his terms ! He will be missed by many.
