Oneida >> Diane M. Karan, 60, of 523 Cleveland Ave., Oneida, died Friday evening, Sept. 26, 2014, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice.

Diane was born on Oct. 28, 1953 in Oneida and was the daughter of Louis and Josephine Maiura Jacob. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Oneida High School's Class of 1971. She attended SUNY Morrisville and continued her education with the American Institute of Bankers and NYBA.

She married Roger A. Karan Jr. on July 29, 2007 at the White Eagle in Hamilton, N.Y.

She was employed as a vice president and loan officer in the Business Banking Department of the Oneida Savings Bank. Diane started her banking career with the Oneida Valley National Bank in 1986. She began as a teller, working her way through the ranks. Progressing through various management positions, Diane served as a branch manager in various locations, most notably in Canastota. Through the years she was promoted to AVP and regional lender (2002), vice president (2005) and VP senior business banking and municipal officer (December 2013). In her most recent position, Diane had been responsible for the development of commercial lending relationships, the creation of effective and sound lending practices, the supervision of commercial lenders and working closely with municipalities.

A very active member in her community, Diane was a member of the Canastota Rotary Club. She was also a director at the Madison County Office for the Aging, the Canastota Community Chest and the Canastota Development Corporation. She was most recently named to the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Chittenango.

Surviving are her husband Roger; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Jenifer Colvin of Oneida and Ryan and Natalie Colvin of Oneida; eight grandchildren: Isaac, Eliza, Abram, Elgin, Evlyn, Carlie, Brian and Lillian; two great-grandchildren: Aiyanna and Izabella; a brother Daniel Jacob of Rochester; and nieces and nephews: Michael and Jill Jacob, Daniel and Jennifer Jacob and Angelique and Andrew Hackett.

She was predeceased by her father Louis on Nov. 10, 1999, her mother Josephine on July 11, 2013 and most recently by her brother Ronald on April 3, 2014.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Oneida, with the Rev. Richard J. Kapral officiating. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Oneida. Family and friends are invited and may call on the family Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida. In her memory, please make any memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
