Donald Dymes Obituary

MUNNSVILLE-Donald R. Dymes, 91, of Park Street, passed away early Saturday morning, November 27, 2021, in the Extended Care Facility of Oneida Health, where he had been a resident for the past two years.Born in Ossning on November 1, 1930, Donald was the son of William and Marian Merwin Dymes. A resident of the area since 1950, Donald was a graduate of Croton-Harmon High School and Cobleskill ATC. He married M. Marie Mason in St. Therese’s Church, Munnsville on May 25, 1952. Mrs. Dymes passed away on December 6, 2008.Prior to his retirement in 1988, Donald was employed with the New York State Fire Service Academy as a supervisor with fifteen years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from 1952-1953.Don was a member of the Munnsville Volunteer Fire Department and multiple state and national fire service organizations. He was also a member of the American Legion, Munnsville Post 54 and a communicant of the former St. Therese’s Church.Surviving are: his daughter, Audrey (Paul) Burleson of Munnsville; his two sons, Donald A. (Celia Goodwin) Dymes of Oneida Castle and John W. Dymes of Newfane; his seven grandchildren, Paul (Jayne Hammen) Burleson, Travis (Jaime) Burleson, Douglas (Michelle) Burleson, Courtney (Matt Navojosky) Dymes, Alissa (Chris) Erbs, Adam (Johanna) Dymes and Kyle (Meghan Bailey) Kiehn; his six great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Tyler, Amelia, Macie, Kennedy and Luna; his son-in-law, Ken Kiehn, of Munnsville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ruth Kiehn on May 4, 2020 and a daughter-in-law, Linda Dymes, on April 29, 2020.We would like to especially thank Celia Goodwin and Audrey Burleson and the late Ruth Kiehn for the sacrifices they made during the medical challenges that Donald faced. Also, with extreme heartfelt gratitude for the staff at Oneida ECF, especially the 3rd floor staff that came to know him as we did as The Old Man, Cranky Pants, or like his fellow FDIC AV crew members, Master Sergeant, as he made sure things were done a certain way, order and time.Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday (12/10/21) from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Rev. Christopher Ballard, officiating. Interment will be made in Stockbridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on from 4-7PM, Thursday (12/9). I am sorry to hear of the death of your dad. He was one of the staples of Munnsville. I remember anything involving the fire department he was there. He´ll be missed. You were fortunate to have as dad. RIP

Spent many hours with the "Old Man" golfing and a lot of trips to Watkins Glen. He did not get cheated he had a long productive life blessed with a great family, who should take pride with the life they all shared RIP.
