Donald Shattuck Obituary

Donald George “Butch Shttuck, of Bouckville, NY, departed for greener golf courses and baseball diamonds after a brief illness on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, NY.Donald, known by most as “Butch” was born on June 13, 1941 in Oneida, New York the son of Lyle and Doris Davis Shattuck. He was raised in Earlville and graduated from the Earlville Central School in June of 1959 and attended the Syracuse Barber School in preparation for taking over his grandfather’s “Shattuck Barbershop” in Bouckville, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Sharon Karpp Shattuck and five children and their spouses Douglas Shattuck, Dorenda (Frank) Johnson, Deanna (Randy) Mennig, Wendy (Mark) Losee, and Penny (Brian) Koehl. He was blessed with 14 Grandchildren Kelly Shattuck, Erin (Tom)Lacey, Jeremiah(Tara) Johnson, Mallory Johnson, Hannah (Nick) Lafko, Mckay (Austin) Blodgett, Tori (Mike) DiPinto, Colton Mennig, Donyelle Losee, Adam (Mary) Losee, Cooper, Delaney, Keiffer, and Aspen Koehl. and 7 Great Grandchildren who were the apples of his eye. As well as 22 nieces and nephews.\He is also survived by a sister and brother in laws; Dorothy and Donald Unger and Donald Fischer. As well as sister and brother in laws; Diane Potter, Jean Karpp, Ronald French, John Lancaster, and Charles Nippress.Donald was predeceased by his parents and in-laws Lyle and Doris Shattuck and Mortimer Sr. and Ivah Karpp and sister and brother Donna Fischer and Dennis Shattuck.Butch was the Bouckville Barber from 1960- 2018 when he retired serving generations of Grandfathers, Fathers, Young Men and Youngsters. He enjoyed all the conversations especially about sports with his customers and truly enjoyed the many Colgate student athletes. He also served on The Village of Earlville Board from 1973-1984 primarily as the budget officer.A very athletic young man playing high school Basketball, Baseball, and Football and continued his love of athletics after graduation playing Town Team Baseball, Adult League Basketball, Bowling and Golf. Golf became is lifetime sport playing every chance that he could both here in New York and during his spring trips to South Carolina. Often, you would find him off in the woods searching for lost balls he could sell at the Barber Shop. He always made sure his children enjoyed a summer vacation trip that was fun and educational and loved attending the many sporting, art, and music activities of his children and his grandchildren. The lessons he shared with his children shine bright as they raise their own families.There will be no services. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 19, 2021 from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 6 Brookside Drive Morrisville, NY 13408Instead of flowers the family requests donations to: ALSAC/St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital,501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105“We’re not only stronger, we are closer and we have already learned we have what it takes to handle whatever surprises life sends our way. We have each other and that’s all we need. We have been through a lot together, haven’t we? You know what though? Sharon, Doug and family,
Butch was a great coach, teammate and a gentleman. I was very lucky to have had Kevan urge me to try out for the team, so our path would cross. It was a highpoint and Butch was a big part of that. I am truly sorry for your loss.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Shattuck's passing. My dad (also Taney, R.I.P.) knew him via Town Team ball and was fond of him. Mr. Shattuck was kind enough to stop by my room at CMH in the summer of 1969 as I was recuperating from surgery, and it meant a lot to me. May he always Rest In Peace.
