Elizabeth Ferris Obituary

MANHATTAN - Elizabeth (Liz) C. Ferris, 64, of Inwood Upper Manhattan passed away unexpectedly at her home on April 3, 2011.
She was born May 10, 1946 in Oneida, N.Y., to Eugene B. and Helen B. Ferris of Vernon. She graduated from VVS Central School in 1964.
After graduation she moved to New York City, which she had planned to do since she was 6 years old. She lived at the YMCA, and attended the Latin American Institute majoring in French and Business. She worked for the Belgian Consulate as a Bi-Lingual Secretary from 1965-1976.
She moved to midtown Manhattan, and worked briefly as an assistant at Christie's Auction House, then created her own successful transcription business working out of her home.
After 911, she moved to her current home on Seaman Ave. in Upper Manhattan where she managed her business "Liz Ferris Word Processing" for 21 years until her untimely death.
She transcribed hundreds of interviews for GQ Magazine, Business Week, multiple professors at Teachers College, Trinity School, international conferences for Ernst & Young, seminars at Fordham University, research interviews for film makers and authors. A favorite being Barbara Taylor Bradford, an author she worked with for over 20 years.
She had traveled the world extensively, but in a different way than most. She was an explorer, and she explored not in fancy tour buses and hotels, but by walking in each place she visited, by taking public transportation to get acquainted with the people, to talk with them and find out about their lives and dreams. She talked to everybody, in every shop and restaurant where ever she was.
She wanted to be among the every day people, seeing and learning so much more than can be discovered by just the visiting the tourist highlights of a country.
One of her favorite places to visit was Rome, Italy where she discovered the Torre Argentina Roman Cat Sanctuary, after her fist visit she couldn't wait to go back and work as a volunteer. She had returned several times to work with the cats and would have returned many more times in the future.
She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Edelmann of Sherborn, Mass. and Anne Gotthard of Sherrill, N.Y. and her brother, Gene Ferris of Utah. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Eugene Griffith, Angela Albro, Jonathan Edelmann, Matthew Edelmann, Benjamin Brown and Alex Edelmann, and her beloved pets, Harry, Hector and Harper.

How very sad to lose a beautiful Seaman Ave neighbor. Even her flowers inside the sidewalk planter are in mourning as they have yet to bloom! RIP dear Liz PS I miss our daily early morning talks - you out with Harper and me out my first floor window
