Gregory Kadien Obituary
Gregory was born April 23, 1952 in Kew Gardens, N.Y. to the late Richard and Regina Kadien. He graduated from Auburn High School and attended Keuka College.
Greg had a distinguished 36 year career with New York State Department of Corrections retiring from Gowanda Correctional as superintendent in February 2010. He was active in martial arts participating and winning several awards in competition throughout the years. He was a member of the Auburn Cert Team and had been the Cert Lieutenant for Oneida Correctional Facility. He recently retired to his winter home in Ocala, Fla., while enjoying summers in Central New York. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala.
Greg married Katherine Poling (Moutinho) June 14, 1991 in a union that was filled with love and laughter and together they blended their families to raise five beautiful children.
Survivors include his sons, Gerald (Jenny) Kadien of Marietta, Ga., and Nicholas Kadien from Clearwater, Fla. His three stepdaughters, Bethany (Michael) Mai from Deltona, Fla., Valerie (Todd) Marris from Vernon, N.Y. and Vanessa (Chad) Nelson from Vernon Center, N.Y. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, brother-in-law, Robert (Deborah) Berry and brother, Richard (Diane) Kadien, along with several nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life Greg was always available to help a family member or friend with anything they might need. His great sense of humor and enjoyment with playing pranks on others will be remembered by many.
Funeral services and arrangements are private, and the family requests in lieu of flowers, any donations be directed to Hospice of Marion County, at 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, Fla. 34474.

Greg, I remember the Mohawk Riot. We were the first squad in. 624 Convicts and 12 of us. Your first radio transmission to TOC was" Squad 1 in place...I think we can take them". I miss that Strong Spirit. Rest easy Brother

Greg, In the 60's we drank our first beers together in my back yard. You were my mentor at Auburn Prison in the 70's In the 80's we watched all the big boxing matches together. You were one of the finest Correctional Officers I every worked with. You truly cared about your officers. My god bless your family in thier time of sorrow. Kathy and family, So very sorry for your loss. My husband and I knew Greg from the Oneida days and Midstate. Greg helped out my brother, at Law Enforcement Day that Oneida EAP sponsored, by volunteering to wear a bite suit. My brother then demonstrated the skills of his K-9. We warned Greg the dog goes mostly for the groin. Greg said he would still do it!! Greg later said, "Yep he does"!! Greg was a pleasure to work with and I always respected him for not playing favorites. God Bless you Greg. Love to all the family. So sorry.

So sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working with Greg at Oneida. You had to know him to get his sense of humor,I knew him well and had many great times with him and Bob on CERT. He was a truly honorable supervisor that honestly cared for the people he worked with. It is so rare today to find someone with Greg's sense of loyalty and comradery. I have missed Greg since he retired,God speed my friend.

It is so difficult to reduce in an obituary the impact someone had on people's lives. I knew Greg most of my life. You could not have created a better father, husband, employee, or friend. He leaves behind a void that will never be filled. In the good and bad times of my life he was always there. I will miss you Red, you left way too soon.
