Le Roy V. Thornton Sr.

ONEIDA -Le Roy V. Thornton, Sr., 86, Lenox Avenue, died Monday morning, May 31, 2021, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.Born in Manchester, Vermont, on June 1, 1934, he was the son of Vernon L. and Bertha Clayton Thornton. A resident of the Oneida area for past sixty-six years, Le Roy attended Madison schools. He married Mary Myers in Oneida on June 4, 1955. Mary died on June 15, 1997.Prior to his retirement, with thirty-eight years of service, Le Roy was employed with the former Oneida Foundries, Inc. in Oneida. He was of the Christian faith.Surviving are two daughters Bambi (Michael) Collins of Oneida and Janice (John Waybright) Burton of Leesburg, FL; three sons, Le Roy V. (Terri) Thornton, Leslie E. (Claudia Abrams) Thornton and Terry L. (Barbara Wright) Thornton, all of Oneida; his grandson, who he raised as his own son, Raymond Burton, Jr.; his son-in-law, Clifford Olcott of Oneida; one sister, Betty Janczuk of Durhamville; one brother, Willard Thornton of Oneida; twenty grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, Tina Marie Thornton and Marguerite Olcott, two sons, Gene Raymond and Edwin C. Thornton; and a brother, Edwin J. Thornton, Sr.Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Monday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Rev. Neil Coe, officiating.
