Robert Carnevale Obituary

VERONA BEACH-Robert M. “Bob” Carnevale, 81, Lake Shore Road, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 19, 2021, at his home.Born in Oneida, on May 29, 1940, he was the son of Michael A. and Mary Szablak Carnevale. Bob was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1958, and then joined the United States Army in 1961, serving with the U. S. Army Intelligence for three years in Washington, D.C., where he and his unit were actively involved in handling intelligence during the Cuban Missile Crisis, escorting foreign dignitaries after the assassination of President Kennedy and providing security detail during the March on Washington. After leaving the military, he attended Utica College, graduating in 1969.Bob went on to become a 6th grade teacher in the Canastota School District, retiring in 1995 after twenty-five years of dedicated service. His wife, Susie, and he lived on Oneida Lake and during retirement, spent their winters in St. Augustine Beach, Florida. Bob was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing, walking and home renovations.Surviving besides his wife, Susie, who was his high school sweetheart, are his daughter, Paula Carnevale of Johnstown; his son, David (Julie) Carnevale of Canastota; his grandsons, Benjamin and Matthew; his two brothers, Donald Carnevale of Manlius and Ralph (Penny) Carnevale of Newfane, Vermont; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Carnevale and a brother, Richard “Barney” Carnevale.At the request of Bob, there will be no calling hours and interment will be private for the immediate family. Mr Carnevale was one of the best teachers Canastota has ever seen. A treasure. I remember buying him a box of thin mints and a get well card when he had a surgery and was out for a bit. Must have been 1990. Really made an impact.
