Shirley Davis Obituary

ONEIDA CASTLE - Shirley E. Davis, 83, East Fifth Street, passed away peacefully Monday, July 16, 2012, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a medical patient for the past week.

Born in Oneida on Aug. 22, 1928, she was a daughter of Chester F. and Alice Peters Marshall. A lifelong resident of this area, Shirley attended Oneida High School. She lived at Lewis Point on Oneida Lake for over fifty years and married the love of her life, Jack R. Davis in the First United Methodist Church of Oneida on June 21, 1947. Jack died on Dec. 27, 1998.

A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Shirley was employed, prior to her retirement, with the Oneida Limited, Silversmiths. She was a dedicated lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneida, committed to serving through her involvement with the choir, Purls of Hope knitting group, the Women's Bible Study and various other groups.

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Mar Layne and Scott Miller and Elayne and Jerry Dowling, all of Oneida, Tami L. Davis-Betelek and Martin Betelek of Milford, N.H. and Jacqueline R. and Michael Loomis of Mechanicsville, Va.; one son, Edgar C. "Ed" Davis of Oneida; eleven grandchildren, Zachary Musacchio-Davis (Wendy Musacchio, mother), Laura Gordon and her husband, James and Matthew Miller, Andy, Peter and Shannon Dowling, Luke, Jack and Allison Betelek, and Wyatt and Garrett Loomis; one great-grandson, Noah Miller; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday from the First United Methodist Church of Oneida, with the Rev. Colleen Preuninger, pastor, officiating. Interment will be made in Rome Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, 3-7 p.m., Thursday. Contributions, in her memory, may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 116 West Grove St., Oneida, N.Y. 13421.
