Timothy Tyler Obituary

CANASTOTA - Timothy Andrew Tyler, 37, of 9185 Old Orchard Road, Canastota, died on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at his home with family and friends by his side, following a three year courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1975, in Syracuse, the son of John, Sr., and Kathleen Stagnitti Tyler.

Tim has lived in Canastota all of his life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1994. He later graduated from R.I.T. (Rochester Institute of Technology) with a bachelor's degree in business management.

He was an outstanding wrestler, becoming a two-time New York State Sectional Champion, a member of the 1993-1994 Section 3 Class C championship wrestling team, and a four-time Class C champion while at Canastota High School. At R.I.T., Tim was a Division 3 All-American and an academic All American.

Tim was a New York State Trooper for 10 years, retiring in 2012 due to his health.

He was a member of the Police Benevolent Association, as well as the Mohawk Valley Wrestling Club. He was an AYSO soccer coach for three and four year olds. Tim especially loved his involvement as a counselor with the New York State Junior Police Academy each summer.

Tim was a member of St. Mary's Church in Verona Beach.

Tim married Jennie Anne "Jen" LaBarre on Sept. 11, 1999, at St. Mary's Church.

Surviving besides his wife, Jen, are a daughter, Emma Sue Tyler, and a son, Andrew John Tyler, both at home; his parents, John Sr., and Kathleen Tyler of Canastota; his paternal grandmother, Gladys Tyler of Canastota; one brother and sister-in-law, John, Jr., and Tonya Tyler, and their daughter, Gabrielle, of Canastota; a sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Rik Masters, and their children, Phoebe and Chloe, of Munnsville. Tim has always been especially close to his own sister and brother, but was also close to Jen's brothers, Jake and James LaBarre; Jeff and Lori LaBarre and their children, Ryan Michael and Trevor Timothy. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro St., Canastota, where a funeral mass and the New York State Trooper Ceremony will be held. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, from 2-8 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Tim Tyler Courage and Strength Scholarship Fund, or the Emma & Andrew Tyler Education Fund, both c/o Lori A. Hood, 7612 Oxbow Road, Canastota, N.Y. 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

To the Tyler & LaBarre family,
My memories of Tim date back to his elementary days at South Side School where I had him as a student. I remember him as being a fairly quiet student with a great smile and one who anyone would be happy to have in his or her classroom. I did follow his progress through school to know that he succeeded in his studies and had quite a wrestling career.
It is my hope that the wonderful memories that each of you have of Tim will hasten to lessen the terrible grief you must have at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with Tim and with your family.

To the LaBarre and Tyler families...I got to know Tim and Jennie while living with the family in Canastota back in 1999. The love that Jennie and Tim shared was so precious and so beautiful. I only hope that Jennie and the rest of the family finds peace in all of the wonderful memories shared with Tim! I only have a few...but the memories I have are full of laughter. The families, friends, and every persons paths he crossed were certainly blessed with no less than a smile. Tim, you will truly be missed by many! I pray for strength and courage for each and every family member and friend of Tim Tyler's. He was truly an inspiration to many. Many hugs sent to the LaBarre and Tyler families.

I took some business classes at RIT with Tim. We were paired up to give a presentation sophomore year. We both had an issue pronouncing the word championing. When we finally gave the presentation we could barely control our laughter trying to say this word. Whenever I hear the word I think back to that presentation.

I'm sorry for the family's loss.

May the Lord raise you high above, Don't you fret on the ones that you loved.
Your generosity and support helped those in need, without realizing you have planted many seeds.
Rise above and watch over us all, help many know it was time for Jesus to call.
Your memory will carry on for those who you knew, and for the ones you touched indeed the grew.
I cant do much to stop the tears, but I hope this helps for those you hold dear.
For every light the sun shines down, for every breeze that comes around.
May they feel your presents by the touch, and know you still love them so much.
