Willard E. Merrell

Willard E. Merrell, 82, of Canastota, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 30, 2022, at his son’s home. He was born on November 18, 1939, in Oneida, the son of Donald Charles and Jennie Trew Merrell. He was a 1958 graduate of Canastota High School. On October 28, 1961, Will was united in marriage to Patricia A. McCarthy in St. John’s Church, North Bay. Will was employed as a laborer for National Grid for twenty-eight years, retiring in 2006. A lifelong resident of the area, he was an avid snowmobiler and an original member and President of the Oneida Lake Ice Breakers. Surviving are his four children, Randy A. (Deborah) Merrell, of Canastota, Terry M. (Susan) Merrell, of Canastota, Shelly (John) Albanese, of Iowa, and Todd (Tracey) Merrell, of Oneida; a sister, Yvonne (Ron) Kurula, of Bridgeport; twelve grandchildren, Mark (Andrea), Michael, Brett Merrell, Ryan (Amy) and Jeffrey (Kassidy) Merrell, Wyatt and Owen Albanese, and Ashley, Eric, Evan, Allison, and Will Merrell; six great-grandchildren; Jett, Elliana, Ellie, Piper, Emersyn, and Parker; and several nieces and nephews. Will was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Jennie; and his wife, Patty. Private graveside services will be held at a future date in St. John’s Cemetery, North Bay. There are no calling hours.
