Anne Farnsworth Obituary

Anne Garry Farnsworth of Athens, GA, died Monday, February 16, 2015, at the Gentiva Hospice facility in Athens Regional Medical Center, losing too soon her hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born February 25, 1948, one of five beloved children of Herbert Graham and Kathleen Fanning Farnsworth, she lived most of her life in Atlanta, graduating from Christ the King Elementary School and D'Youville Academy High School. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. She completed her B.A. degree at Georgia State University.
She first worked as graphic designer for The Great Speckled Bird, an alternative Atlanta newspaper. She was then a copy editor at The Atlanta Journal, and then at Type/Set Concepts, before moving to BellSouth Advertising and Publishing Company (BAPCO) from 1984-1996. She was Director of Marketing Support at IBM from 1997 to 2001, after which she was an independent marketing consultant until 2008, when she retired to take care of her elderly mother.
Annie and her late husband, Eugene Plott Brice, moved to Athens, GA, in 1997, when he opened the Athens Bureau Office for The AJC. They both loved living among many wonderful neighbors and friends in Athens. Annie particularly relished being a member of Glenwood Garden Club. She was an avid reader and belonged to two book clubs. She was devoted to her dogs, especially Sister, Pilgrim and Juneau. She considered herself blessed to play large parts in the lives of her nieces and nephews: Daniel Farnsworth and Patrick Farnsworth of Atlanta, Claire Farnsworth Wildman of Berkeley, CA, and Sarah Farnsworth of San Diego, CA.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Plott Brice, in 2007, and her sister, Florence Farnsworth, in 2005. She leaves behind her brothers, Richard Farnsworth (Anne) of Atlanta and their children listed above, Brian Farnsworth of Athens, and David Farnsworth of Shreveport, LA, and sisters-in-law, Dianne Brice of Atlanta and Susan Brice Harris (Tom) of Canton.
There will be a family graveside service in Atlanta and a Celebration of Annie's life in Athens at a later date.
Annie and Plott enjoyed helping at the Janette Rankin Foundation, which offers educational scholarships for single mothers. She therefore asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to that organization at: www.rankinfoundation.org.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of the arrangements.

I know Richard - Anne's brother- who was our attorney for our dad's Foster Hotard estate. The whole Farnsworth family was always held up as a good and remarkable family by my parents Foster and Teresa when we were growing up - and they were right to feel that way! I read Anne's caring obituary and remember well Richard sharing with our Hotard family many fond memories of his siblings who passed away far too early. To all remaining Farnsworth- we send many good wishes; love among family and friends will always endure as the years' pass. John Hotard - New York City -February 2019

Anne was truly the most fun manager that I ever worked for at BellSouth. She sent me a postcard from Ireland and I still have it. I will keep it in my memoirs always. Sorry to hear of her early death. I have walked in these shoes of losing a Mom.

Anne had a special way about her. When you left her you felt loved and special. I met her at Glenwood Garden Club where I was a nanny to Annalivia and Lincoln. She was so kind to us and we would often see her walking her dogs in the neighborhood. She was a light to all of us. God bless her family. Our deepest sympathy goes to you. Thank you, Anne, for your kindness. Enjoy your new neighborhood Garden Club in Heaven.

To Anne's family, I can only echo the sentiments that have been expressed by others before me. They are all true. Anne never met a stranger and treated everyone with dignity and respect, no matter their station in life. She was a great boss and as my mentor and friend, I enjoyed many good times with her...especially that dry humor and infectious laughter! I shall always remember her as intelligent, funny, and full of life. A great Lady. Please accept my deepest sympathy and my thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

Dear Annie always left me with such warm and fuzzy feelings. She and her brother, Richard, had been friends with my late husband, Doug, since their college days. When Doug and I started visiting Atlanta, Annie and Richard always made sure we were included in family events. I fondly remember celebrating Easter at the Farnsworth's family home, partying in Annie's cramped Emory apartment (with trains roaring by right outside the bedroom window) and shootin' the Hootch in a raft with her. Those were the days! She was so generous with her time, friendship and advice, and we had tons of stimulating, funny, deep philosophical discussions -- the stuff of life! Though she and Plott eventually moved to Athens and we saw far less of each other after that, Annie remained a great friend to the end. The world is a little more joyless without her in it, but I am happy that she is beyond suffering and reunited with Plott and her beloved parents. My heart goes out to all of her family, both the Farnsworths and the Brices, and all those who loved her. Thank you, Annie, for sharing your beautiful spirit with us!

I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said. Everyone who knew you was deeply touched in some way by your intelligence and generous spirit. She was a great boss and friend. Her infectious laugh will always be remembered. So many wonderful memories. We will all miss you "kiddo."

Anne had the ability to see past the exterior of a person and accept them for who they were. I never heard her raise her voice in anger, she always had a kind word to say and I can still hear her laughter. She genuinely cared for those she worked with. This was one classy lady and she will be missed deeply.

Anne was one of a kind, a brilliantly clever person with a vivacious spirit. Our families became friends through our church and so our paths crossed over the years. She & I attended the same high school and I & my siblings admired & loved her. May her family feel blessed with the legacy she left on this earth! Elena de Give Allison
