Bill McKeller Obituary

Bill McKeller, born on July 27, 1936 in Donalsonville, GA, died of multiple myeloma on August 9, 2017 at home in Athens, GA.

Bill was the ultimate family man and neighbor, dedicating his time and energy to his wife, children and those around him. His was a most generous soul, fully committed to family and others in need; often kind to total strangers he happened to meet along the way. His generous spirit and warm smile affected all those around him and will be dearly missed.

Bill retired from Athens Regional Medical Center where he was Director of Pharmacy Services for 35 years. He was the consummate professional and a leader in his field, recognized often by state pharmaceutical associations. After retirement Bill continued to practice pharmacy part time.

Bill is survived by his wife, Bobbie; daughter, Jennifer; sons, Michael and Mark; grandchildren, Macy and Evan; a brother, Larry; and a sister, Dorothy Ard.

A celebration of Bill's life will be announced and held in the near future.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank, 640 Barber Street, Athens, GA 30601, or to The Rotary Foundation, c/o Classic City Rotary Club, PO Box 48415, Athens, GA 30604.

I will never forget seeing and meeting Bill for the first time-- He was out working hard in his yard and dead heading back his flowers. I remember thinking, "Wow!, What beautiful gardens and flowers he has"---not an easy task-- and he did it with much joy and pride. I am honored to have known Bill these past couple of years. I will miss his smile, sense of humor and his wit...he always made me chuckle. Bobbie, Jennifer, Mark and Michael may you all have fond memories of your husband/dad in this time of grieving and may peace and love be with you. My condolence to you and the family.

Oh, what sad news...Bill McKeller was a friend of the family from before I was born. This kind man danced with me at my wedding when my father couldn't. I probably ran into Mr. McKeller once a year in the recent past but when I did it was always a warm and funny talk. You will be missed, Dawn Stula

I met Bill in the mid 1960s when I came to pharmacy graduate school at UGA. Because I was also a hospital pharmacist, we became friends and stayed in touch up until the last few months. His impact on Georgia pharmacy will always be remembered as the man who brought unit-dose dispensing to hospitals and nursing homes.
