I think of my ole friend often and miss his company. He was a great DU volunteer leader. I cherish the hand carved decoys he made that I have. A great fellow, missed and not forgotten.

Like so many other family members & friends, I think I've been in shock over the loss of Uncle E.C. (Eli)
I miss him so much. I keep waiting for him to walk into the office & talk about how many days it is until "duck season" opens again before going out to the shop & working on his duck carvings.
And. yes, he was a true Southern gentleman - loved & missed by so many.

Eli was a kind and passionate man who enjoyed being known as an conservationist. Besides his love for family, he loved the sight of seeing ducks in flight. He was happy to be with friends who also shared his passion for waterfowl and protection of their habitat. Eli will be missed but not forgotten. Take care old coot and see you later.

Georgia Ducks Unlimited has lost a long time valued leader with the passing of Eli. His many donated handmade decoys and his positive leadership on a state level leave a wonderful legacy. I will miss him as a friend. I was very blessed to have known a real true Southern Gentleman in Eli. Monty Lewis, Former DU Emeritus Board Chairman
Eli was a master carver as well

In 1980 I moved back to Athens and Eli recruited me to the local Athens DU committee. He said I needed to be a bronze sponsor and so he started me on a career of DU volunteerism that has lasted 38 years and continues today. In that time I have held every job in Georgia DU including serving as state chairman from 2006-2008. I will always remember Eli as the godfather of Athens DU and someone who had a significant impact on my life. We hunted together for thirty years and I especially remember our trips every season to Lake Seminole with Brian Boree and David Eaves to hunt the ringnecks and canvasbacks that wintered there.
