Peter Aaron Appel passed away on Sunday, January 28th, 2018 at the age of 53. Peter began teaching at the University of Georgia School of Law in 1997 and was Alex W. Smith Professor, specializing in environmental and natural resources law. Peter is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Christine L. Albright and his seven-year-old son Oliver Appel. He is also survived by parents June and Leonard Appel of Seattle, sister Batsheva Appel of Tucson, brother David Appel and wife Karen of Seattle, and nephews Reuben and Simon Appel. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was among the first group of students that Professor Appel taught at UGA Law in 1997. He was a gifted teacher and scholar. Your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.
