Walter Durden Obituary

Gainesville - Walter Faust Durden of Gainesville, Georgia died Friday July 25, 2003 in Maryville, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School and the University of Georgia. After spending time working in Colorado, Philadelphia, Pa., San Francisco, Ca., Miami, Fla., Atlanta, Ga., and some time working in Nicaragua, Walter settled in Athens, Georgia where he worked for the University of Georgia. He is preceded in death by parents, Dr. Faust Durden, Louise Sims Durden Dukes, Chester Earl Dukes, Jr. and cousin Julie Reynolds.
Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law; Melissa and Matthew Pacifico, Maryville, Tennessee; Stacy and Johnny Smith, Flowery Branch, Ga.; brothers, Chet Dukes, Cumming; David Dukes, Maryville, Tennessee; nephews, Michael and Stephen Pacifico, Fletcher and Andrew Dukes, Jonathon Smith and Shelly Smith. Extended family members include aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to a Graveside Service Sunday July 27, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at the Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, Ga., Rev. Fletcher Law will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's name to the Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.

I am so sorry to hear about Walter. I went to Gainesville Jr. High and High School with him. I've thought about him many times over the years. I considered him a funny, witty friend. I'm very sorry for your loss.
