Audrey McIntosh Obituary

McIntosh, Audrey, born July 25, 1923 in Whittier, California, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on March 24, 2009. The daughter of Elwin and Jean Forrow and sister to Bobby Henry and Sue Davis, was a resident of Newport Beach, California for over 65 years. Mrs. McIntosh attended Stanford University before enlisting in the US Marine Corps in 1944. Stationed at El Toro Marine base, Audrey met and married the father of her 3 sons, John Reuben McIntosh. In 1948 the newlyweds purchased the Snack Shop, a 10 stool diner located in Corona del Mar on Pacific Coast Highway that subsequently grew into Far West Services, the parent company of Snack Shops, Coco's, Reuben's, Reuben E. Lee among others. Over a 30 year span they employed tens of thousands of young men and women across the nation establishing the highest of standards still employed today by most major restaurant chains. A devout Christian, Audrey was an active founder - member of the Grace Fellowship Church in Costa Mesa. She touched the lives of many and her effect on this world is profound. Her good will was spread from Newport Beach to Mexico, South America and as far away as Africa. An avid sportswoman, she enjoyed fishing and skiing in addition to being a brilliant chef and businesswoman, responsible for not only most of the famous Reuben's and Coco's recipes but the impeccable service standards they were known for. Our beloved Audrey is survived by her sister, Sue Davis; sons, Scott, John and Patrick; daughters-in-law, Cathy, Terri and Lori; grandchildren, Tim, Eric, Brooke, Heather, Nicole, Elisha, Shelby and Ashley; 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and countless friends. A memorial service is schedule for 2 pm on Saturday, April 4 at the Grace Fellowship Church, 3170 Red Hill Ave., Costa Mesa. www.gracefellowship.org

Our hearts go out to the family. This "dynamo" of a woman will certainly be missed. Audrey was the most giving person anybody had the pleasure of knowing. She will always be in our hearts.
