Michele Myhr Obituary

Myhr, Michele Marie 61 Oct. 19, 1950 Jan. 03, 2012 Mishy planned to live forever. That didn't work out. She passed on Jan. 3. She was, as she made us all agree, "39 years old- and holding." She was beautiful, without the traps of vanity. Her life force was immense, but trapped inside a body that failed her. She was kind. She was tough. Mishy was born in Portland, 39 years ago of course, to Marie and Duke Roydon. A Rose City neighborhood kid, she thought her father was strong and her mother was Miss America. Mishy loved her family. She went to St Rose Catholic grade school where she excelled in calligraphy, English and faith. She spent most of fifth grade thinking about becoming a saint. While that didn't happen, she did learn to be fair and compassionate. She went to Madison High School. In college, she earned a degree in communications. She previously worked at KATU-TV as a commercial writer and then a producer. She treasured her time there and the life long friendships she developed. It was at KATU that Mishy met Norm Myhr, they married in 1978. Mishy began her lifelong struggle with Crohn's Disease at age 19. She said she wasn't brave-she just did what she had to do. So she travelled while she could. She became an accomplished cook with a specialty in making chicken not taste like chicken. She was a wonderful hostess. She listened and made all her guests feel welcome, important and appreciated. She could be wickedly funny and did great voice impressions. She read everything and anything from Egyptology to People magazine. She became the family's best player at Trivial Pursuit, was undefeated in Boggle and sneaky good at Scrabble. She never accepted her disability. Against the advice of her doctors, she had a child, Kristen. Mishy instilled in Kristen her values of fairness, compassion and humor. Michele taught her family and friends many lessons by the way she handled her affliction with toughness, grace and dignity. We cannot express how much we will miss our Mishy. Michele is survived by her daughter, Kristen; husband, Norm; sister, Cheryl Lindblad; brother, Michael Roydon and his wife, Brenda Scrivens; nephew, Michael Lindblad and his wife, Angela; and Norm's daughter, Heather. Our family wants to express its thanks to the staff at Providence Hospital and especially the nurses from 5G, for the years of nurturing care and love shown to Michele. Thank you also to Dr. Michael Philips and the other doctors at The Oregon Clinic for caring for Michele with skill and compassion. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at Adams Chapel, Riverview Cemetery 0300 SW Taylors Ferry Road, Portland 97219. A Funeral Service will be held in Adams Chapel Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. Private family committal and interment service at Riverview Cemetery. Donations to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice in Michele's name are welcome.

Michele was a dear friend growing up! I remember going to dinner with our Lebanese girl friends and having the best of times. Cannot believe she has been gone so long. I still miss her. xoxo

My relationship with Michelle started many years ago when a group of us Lebanese women (girls)
used to meet and go out to dinner. Michelle was a big part of that. It's been a long time but I am very sad to hear of her passing. She suffered with her sickness for many years and I admired her for that. God Bless you Michelle.

Norm, In times of sorrow words often are all that can be offered to the survivors no matter how detached they may seem. Yet life's sorrows are universal in their prevalence and none of us sorrows alone, as John Donne said.

Please accept Pam's and my sincere condolences. Before I will call you to meet and offer mine in person.

With kindest regards, Herb Crane

We have made a contribution in Michelle's name to the Salvation Army.

Norm and Kristen, I wanted to thank you both for giving me the chance to get to know Michele and the rest of the family so well. Wish the circumstances were different. You all will forever be in my heart.
This is my 3rd entry don't know why it keeps kicking it out. Promise the other entries were much better. She is smiling at that one.

To know Michele was a very special privilege. She was classy, elegant, positive, fun, and the best friend that anyone could imagine. Life was not fair to her with her health struggles. But she never complained. She is now enjoying her eternal reward with the other angels in heaven. Stan and Erin Hubert

When I met her in college, Michele stood out from the rest of the pack. 1976 saw most of us as raggedy, wide eyed kids. But Michele was elegant, poised and so kind. She had a aura of grace that stayed with her her whole life. I'm so sorry that she's gone and my heart goes out to you.
