Al was a good friend to my family. He had a great sense of humor and he was very talented. I still use the business card that the designed for my business. I enjoy his paintings which I have both at the office and at home. I see them every day. He was such a delight with old fashioned solid values that we really need today. He had a twinkle in his eye and really enjoyed sharing his thoughts with us. He was a devoted father and husband. He was humble in spite of being very talented. He is very much missed.

Al Carroll was a great artist. I worked for him in the early seventies in Orlando, Florida. I learned so many things from him. I will always be grateful for his selfless sharing of his vast artistic knowledge.

To have known Al is a privilege. He brought so many things to any conversation....his love of all things in nature, his knowledge of art, his outspoken views on our place in the universe.
Mostly, he was kind and sweet and fun and such a delight to be with. He is missed by so many.

Jan and Hannah, we send our love,

Al was the most beautiful spirit I knew. I did not know him well but my heart knew instantly what a very special soul dwelled in this man. Oh, how we already missed him in this past election! My heart goes out to you, Jan and Hannah, knowing two beautiful people have lost their kindred spirit.
He will always be missed but his art (some of which we were unaware in his beautiful humility) will always be treasured.

Jerry and I offer our sincere condolences to Jan and Hannah in this trying time. What a beautiful spirit Al was and he remains that way always in our memories.

The Al Jerry and I came to know over the years was a complex person with a wide variety of interests and skills. The term a "Renaissance man" would be an accurate way to characterize him.

Besides his wonderful artwork celebrating Florida's nature, we knew him as someone who consistently stood up for fairness and decency in a world commonly lacking those traits. He railed against the "mendacity" of those in power who stepped on the less fortunate and poisoned the earth for their own personal greed. He, however, tempered that indignation with a sensitive love of art and nature and thoughtful, genuine kindness to his fellow earthly inhabitants.

He never boasted of his distinguished background in the Orlando arts scene. We learned of the scope of his many achievements in the design field that made such a mark locally by reading about it in the paper this past Wednesday. Of his many skills, he made modesty into an art form.

He recently gave us a box of some inspirational clippings he had gathered over the years, both visual and written, and the contents painted a picture of someone deeply committed to the love of both beauty and honesty. He was an admirer of the author and humanist, Kurt Vonnegut, and they were kindred spirits in many ways. According to Vonnegut, "The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow."

Al epitomized that sentiment in his life-long search for the beauty found in nature, truth, and justice. We're thankful to have known him as long as we did. Rest in Peace, Al
Peace and Love,
Gayle & Jerry

Remembeing conversations and visits with Richard and Al
He sliced fresh jalapenos and tomatoes to take to Bubbalous when we picked him up to go out to eat with us. He told me about pics he took with Richard photo documenting the poverty and conditions at Zellwood Quarters. Both cared about social justice issues and improving the planet earth. RIP

Al Carroll was a wonderful friend to our family. He always had a kind word and a sparkle in his eye. He gave my child who is now an adult painting lessons when she was young. It was always a pleasure to run into him and his wife at the bookstore. God created a special person when he made Al. Thanks for the memories.
