Arnold Lindberg Obituary

LINDBERG, ARNOLD NELS, 82, Orlando, FL, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2003. Arnold was born November 3, 1921 in Jonkoking, Sweden. He became a field engineer for a turbine/ pump company utilizing his skills throughout Europe prior to immigrating to the United States in 1951 with his wife and eldest son. Upon arriving in the United States he plied his primary trade as a tool and die maker until he went to work for Walt Disney at the Disney Studios in Burbank, CA in 1954, where his singing prowess at the annual Christmas parties earned him the nickname from Walt Disney "the Swedish Nightingale". Arnold began his 40 year career with Disney as a machinist and steadily worked his way into higher management positions until his retirement in 1994 as Director of Show and Ride for all Disney theme parks world wide. During his career Arnold led the company in engineering and technology while earning two U.S. Patents for the Disney organization. He was also recognized by the organization by placing his name on a window on Main Street USA at Disney World. Arnold used his singing talent to entertain far charities and friends. His recordings in Swedish along with his talents in design and engineering earned him Swedish American of the Year in 1997, where he and his wife were flown to Sweden to receive this great honor. During that same trip he was awarded an honorary Engineering Degree by the Swedish Engineering Society for his many innovations in designing and building the Disney theme park rides. Arnold was truly one of the few individuals who loved to go to work each and every day. He is a Master Mason as well as a member of the Scottish Rite, Bahai Shrine Temple and the Hagar Viking Club. Upon retiring, Arnold spent his time divided between honey-do's, golf, singing, traveling, friends and his family. He will be truly missed by his family and the many friends he has. He is survived by his wife Eira; three sons, one brother and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 11AM in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Following the service the family will host a celebration of life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Arnold's memory to the Alzheimer Resource Center, 1400 N. Semoran Blvd., Suite A&B, Orlando, FL 32807. Services by WOODLAWN MEMORIAL PARK AND FUNERAL HOME (407) 293-1361.

Hey Arnold.....Take Walt to lunch. You two were the best. Boy, did I ever learn so much from you starting in 1954 at the Studio. Remember the Disneyland pickle jar to collect the 25¢ to improve your words? Remenber the 20K Subs? Oh Arnold, I miss you. Bob Gurr

Arnold was one of the first people I met when I joined the Disney staff in 1974. He epitomized the kind of cast member I wanted to be - friendly, warm and so much fun to be around. He will be missed.
